Thats right Mimi..it is strange, but absolute right.

But all in all I think that also ´Surprise´ will not be a big seller. I do not have any hopes that the album will survive longer than YTO.

To be honest Bodo, when you look what kind of music the majority of the people like and what sells the most ("Schlager & Co". in Germany/Austria), then I am rather surprised, that Paul Simon finds that much appreciation.

There are no songs, you can sing along, before you heard them once. No show or scandals (like Madonna does it) or looks or sex or whatever sells these days. Just music, that you really have to listen to. I can´t imagine a single radio station in Austria, that will play the songs, because they don´t fit in their scheme. So how can somebody, that isn´t a fan yet, have a chance to her this kind of music?

Surprise is:

No. 19 after 10 in Sweden, second week.
No. 37 in Begium after 45, second week.
No. 69 in Europe after 83, second week.

Surprise won´t be ireleased in Ireland until Friday 2nd June. however F&D is already out for a couple of weeks. Glad I was in the states when it was released there. My other half was upset cos it was all we (I) played on the car CD.
I saw an article in USA Today that Edie and the New Bohemians will be releasin "stranger Things" on July 25th.

the really sad thing is that Neil Young is also on position 25 after 15 - sad because nearly all papers and critics said that Neil Youngs album is crap and not worth anything compared to PS Surprise...

All we can learn is that buyers do not follow the things they read in any magazine.

Well..all in all it looks like as if Surprise was a total commercial flop.

With all preorders summed up it could not reach the top 10, and will fall out of the charts in the next 2-3 weeks. Maybe more luck in the UK.

I´m shocked. But here in Italy I´ve never heard or read any advertising.

Surprise dropped from 24 to 43 in the US, third week,
and in Canada from 31 to 57, third week.

So we have to accept that it won`t be a commercial success. Maybe it goes Gold in the US and will sell a Million worldwide like YTO, and this is not a Flop, but it`s nothing lasting for the public.

Only for us and most critics.

Nevertheless I am glad he went new ways again unlike his music pals of his age, mostly boring meanwhile.

And if I hear new music
today, I cannot see any relevant directions, which could match what he does and put it into the corner of "not relevant anylonger". The opposite is true for me.

I am optimistic about UK. My prediction was Top 10 first week and I am sticking with this prediction.

I think the album could have much more success - when there would be a little bit more attention from TV stations, especially in Europe. A concert aired on 3sat, or some documentations on TV stations like ´Bayern´ or ARTE... (I know it will not get any airplay on VIVA or MTV). The music is much better than it sells.

I also thought that with Brian Eno on board the album will get much more attention. Eno himself has many fans.

That is good to hear nancy. Is the album available in locla cd stores. I mean available in a number of 20-30 copies on the main shelf, not only 2 under ´S´ :-)
I never saw The Capeman or YTO at the ´new releases´ board in big CD stores.
