I´m starting to get really annoyed at so many reviewers sneering at the ´Songs From The Capeman´ album.
I don´t rememember terrible reviews when it was issued - mostly it was ignored. In fact the few reviews I did read were positive. Isn´t it the case that reviewers are influenced by the well known flop of the broadway show?
I think some of the tracks are outstanding! I also remember reading a really harsh review of Hearts And Bones in NME - giving it 2 marks out of 10 or smething. Then when Simon was in the UK with Born at the Right tour, the NME referred to Hearts and Bones as a classic album! Why do I bother to read reviews at all? End of rant! Glad to have got it off my chest!

Hm, I dont know any new reviews, but all I remember from the days back was, that the music got very good reviews, the play itself got horrible reviews.

I Love the Capeman album, think it is the last great word-music album Paul did, for me this album closes the circle with Graceland and ROTS...wonder if it will ever be released complete (the cast). There doesn´t come to be a good chance for a release.

I know what you mean...it´s getting sneered at in some of the Suprise reviews, as if it was totally rubbished.

Yes - several Surprise reviewers criticise it. Is it because it appeared in some so called worst albums list?

How many reviewers know and Love Paul and all his works as we do?.....Many of these yoyos have gotten an idea of what they are saying from something else they have read or something someone else has said...Like I keep reading, "Best album he´s done since ´Graceland´"...and to me, ´Surprise´ is in its own category...I have bought 8 copies...play it all the time...and still won´t categorize it anywhere.....Compared to ´Graceland´?...apples and oranges.....
Basically, these reviewers are not Paul Simon aficionados....not experts about his music...so don´t take anything they say as "truth"...You and I know a heck of a lot more than all of them combined.....So read the reviews with a jaundiced eye.....
Personally, I love ´Surprise"...cannot imagine ever tiring of the sounds....and feel this is one album that will continually grow as I listen and learn from the Master....I am just thankful we have this music....It´s totally awesome!

And so the negative references now to ´Capeman´....the reviewers basically know nothing about it.....but read that the play was not a success...blah...blah....

Someday probably after Paul goes to the great recording studio in the sky, some one will hit on H&B and Capeman and give them the promotion they deserve - something Paul himself might think of doing - while he is resting after producing Surprise:-)

I Love "Capeman". Even the savage play reviews praised the music. The cast album is awesome. I wish it would get a proper official release.

Yes, I agree it´s irritating all the write-offs of Capeman. I think often in these cases people don´t even listen, and just go with "accepted wisdom".

By the way, can anyone help me get a copy of the 2CD cast album? I´m desperate to hear it!
