On "Sure don´t feels like Love" Paul sings:

I remember once in August 1993 I was wrong,
and I could be wrong again.
I remember on of my best friends turned enemy.
So, I was wrong,
and I could be wrong again.

Does anyone else think that its Art Garfunkel he´s talking about? In August 1993 they presumably would have been rehearsing for their shows that took place in New York in September/October. What do You think?

I don´t think so, since it is a character song. It´s important for the song that the character is arrogant. I don´t see why autobiographical details help to figure out "the meaning" of the song.

Thats again one of the really funny parts...

Someone so arrogant, who says´ Hey, once in August 1993 I was wrong´ :-) He is the best, he never was wrong..but wait...13 years ago ...yeah ok I was wrong :-)

Also I do not think this is anything biographical about Paul.

I agree that its not autobiographical, but then again, we know that many, many Paul Simon songs have "elements" of Paul in them. And I think it would be too much a coincident why he should choose a month and year were we almost know for certain that Paul & Art worked together.

but Art was not his best friend at this time, and also not an enemy after that time.

Correct me if I´m wrong, but I think the phrase "turned enemy" just means that one isn´t a friend anymore.

they worked together...and have been on tour until December. I do not think they have been enemy all that time.
But I could be wrong... I remember once in February 2002 I was wrong, and I could be wrong again.

Bodo, I have an "inside source", who were backstage during the 1993 concert and who says:

"Backstage and at soundchecks --PLEASE between us -- they were not having fun. They don´t get along at all. It´s crazy."

I think it´s quite sad that they are not friends anymore ... or rather I think it´s sad that they keep on touring together when they obviously can´t get along very well.

I like S&G very much, but since I´m not very nostalgic, I prefer new material ... and that is one reason why I prefer Paul Simon´s solo work.

I´ve got the impression (correct me if you think I´m wrong) that Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel tours together when Paul Simon has a writer´s block and can´t come up with any new material for his solo albums.

Beji, my posting describe what took place in 1993! According to both Paul & Art they get along fine nowadays!

But I agree on your analyze... When Simon has "commercial" problems (like after the One-Trick Pony failure), he can lean against his back catalogue and even have a reunion with Art, although he rather be doing something else.

actually he married her in 1983, but i did think about her when i first heard that line. maybe, he didn´t want to be too obvious so he changed it to 1993 rather than 1983.
