 | i understand that sonically, this album doesnt sound like anything paul has done before (Surprise surprise)...but when thinking about it, i think his lyrics are much more reminiscent of his stuff off ´Paul Simon´ or ´there goes...´
its much more straightforward...judging by the songs we´ve heard so far, i dont think we´re going to get any lyrics as nonlinear or abstract as stuff off Graceland or Rhythm Of The Saints...nothing like ´a cooling system / burns out in the ukraine...´ stuff like that
anyone have any thoughts on this? |

 | Well the acoustic guitar playing and the choir in Wartime prayers sounds very 1970s PS IMO but also the music at this line
"Gone like a memory from the day before the fires."
sounds like it came straight out of the capeman and some of the electric playing sounds a bit like "Love" from You´re The One.
Paul moves on from every album but there´ll always be something there...
as for lyrics I´m not sure yet, I still think there´s plenty of ambiguity in it. I hope so because some of the statements, at face value, make me feel a little uncomfortable. |

 | the lyrics are ´Paul Simon´ trademark, most of the music is very new - but still there are these many changes in melody/rhythm.
All songs are very tricky, much more complex than his songs from the 70´s or 80´s IMO.
I´m very happy with this new way he went, everyone expected him doing more accoustic guitar songwriter songs...things like ´Something So Right´ and a lot of people expected that Art Garfunkel will be on these songs then - but Paul did something absolute new for him (although the music is not that innovating and new) |

 | i completely agree with you, bodo. the lyrics are a bit more complex, but less generalistic than on Graceland. from what ive heard so far, these lyrics are some of his most inspired and soulful. I LOVE IT! |

 | I thought "a cooling system burns out int he Ukraine" was a pretty specific reference to Chernobyl. |
