 | Every Simon fan knows he´s a ´walking metaphor´.Probably we never can get the real meaning of the stuff, but I guess could be funny exchange opinions about strange verses. Here is mine:
"When the sun gets weary
When the sun goes down
EVERY SINCE THE WATERMELON "
(All Around The World)
So guys,I´m hungry to know what this seems to be around the world... |

 | I don´t know, I used to think he sang "Elvis is the Watermelon." I thought that was just as cryptic. =) |

 | Hm interesting. Paul Simon is really a sensitive guy!
Please go to Wikipedia "english" and you will find, that the watermelon is coming from South Africa and also a symbol for dead, for food of black people in the south of the US and a symbol for the green left party. |

 | I know it might be disappointing but don´t forget that, as Simon himself has often said, there is often no real meaning for his lyrics but just that those words, at that place, were sounding good to him... :-) |

 | That´s an interesting theory about the South African connection to the dead - I´ve certainly never thought about it like that.
One of the great things about such ambiguous lyrics like these, is that they can have different meanings to different people; making the songs more personal to the person.
Sometimes, songwriters throw these sort of lyrics in simply because they rhyme and they can´t think of anything better, or because they don´t want the song to become too ´obvious,´ or because the sounds and the phrasing of the words are interesting to them. PS was playing about with new lyric phrasing at the time (such as ´I´m going to Graceland,´ which he threw in at the time, never thinking he was going to keep it that way!), so this one might be possible.
I Love the way that, even after listening to PS´s music for 20 years, I´m still finding new things that I hadn´t realised before when I listen to them. It´s quite amazong really, he´s an amazing songwriter.
I´m also really enjoying coming on here and reading other people´s opinions on the songs etc.. because it helps me see more to his songs that I never thought of before - so thanks guys and gals!
