What show?

At the CMA-awards November 15 2005, Alicia Keys accompanied Willie Nelson on "Still Crazy After All These Years", then Simon sang Nelsons song "Crazy" only with his guitar. Keys only was present. Alltogether short appearance.

At the Kennedy Center Honours for Paul Simon in 2002 Simon did not perform, Alicia Keys sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (and John Mellencamp "Graceland" and "Mrs. Robinson", James Taylor and Alisson Krauss "The Boxer", the Dixie Hummingbirds and all others "Loves Me Like A Rock" as final of the whole show. Great induction speech by Steve Martin.

He characterized Simon`s Love for truth: once Simon phoned him "Steve, I have a new song, 47 ways to leave your lover..." - "Paul, it should be 50!" - "I only have 47, can`t think of anymore..."

Yes, great speech of Steve Martin.
"Steve, psst Steve",
"Yes Mr. President",
"Steve, do you know where I can get some Paul Simon stuff".
"Yes mr. President, in the music store".
"No, I don´t mean the albums, I want the bootleg stuff, do you know where I can get it"?

They did great performances of Paul´s songs at the Kennedy Center Honours, Paul was very pleased and touched.

Yes Ans, great jokes. But you left out the thrill of your Steve Martin-story. Continuing the desires of Mr. Bush:

"I want bootleg stuff...

...and I want you RATHER: "where can I get some Barbra Streisand records? I Love her music, but I can`t be seeing buying it!"

Barbra Streisand was always engaged for the "democrats", even when they maked much faults as during Jimmy Carters time as president.

It most certainly was (at the end of the song(s) WN even says "Thank you Norah").

Yes of course! I was wrong. Sorry!Alicia Keys sang in the same show (but separate) for the Hurricane victims, when Simon performed Take Me To The Mardi Gras.

It was on TV, when Simon was honoured in 2002 together with four other stars from cultural life. Mr. Bush sat near to him.

Simon was the last act, Steve Martin introduced him. It was clearly the hightlight of the show. Some other jokes from him:

"I don`t use the word genius very often - long pause - I just thought I should mention that!"

Then he told about two acrimonious splits (from Garfunkel and Columbia).

And throwed away about five other cards, on which there were other acrimonious splits as to his words.

After he told about Mr. Bush`s difficulties to buy Barbra Streisand-records, he said:

"Well it`s nice to be a citizen".

It seemed, that during the whole and mostly boring show all had waited for something to laugh.

It´s the best speech i ever heard, so hilarious...;-)

Too bad the poster didn´t include the film collage of Paul´s career which belonged also with the speech...
