Seems to me Paul´s silence about his new album shows disrepect toward his fans. He should show some good-will by putting out some knd of statement - don´t you think? I don´t mean to sound ugly, but I am losing my patience. Any fan would. Is a little note too much to ask? What do you think? Am I wrong?

Yes you are wrong, Paul Simon does what he wants to do.

You can then decide whether you want to be a fan or not can´t you?

i prsonaly think that paul is a person in the official live, he has a wonderful live because of his fans and the money his fans gave him for doing his hobby - making music.

at least he could give a statement from time to time about his new work. the band u2 is much more reespeectful with their fans... i thiink reespectful is not the right worrd but youu know what i mean

sorry, the keyyboard here is hoorrible

Well, making advertisemen for a release in spring 2003, and still no real date in spring 2006 makes a lot of people a little bit angry.
At least I think that in winter 2002 80% of the album have been finished (why writting about a release date if you haven´t finished anything)...and now the question is what has Paul done the last 3 years, except touring a few months? Even for a slow songwriter he is too slow :-)

I don´t think he´s purposely disrespectful to fans, I think he´s just a real perfectionist and scrutinates his material before putting it out.

He has a lot of Love for his fans. I know how frustrating it is to wait for so long; I also wish he put out more stuff and that he´d let us in on what he´s up to etc.. But I also know that it will be worth the wait when it does happen.

I think that putting out material that isn´t true to your heart and not perfectly executed up to the last fibre is being disrespectful to your fans. Paul Simon has never let the quality op his work drop. His fans mean a lot to them.

what is more, his fans are so damn critical. he needs more time to cater for an audience as demanding as his.

I think as a fan I can have the demand for some output, what else should we demand. Come on,6 years between the albums, thats normaly called a comeback try after a long time of absinence from the music buisness :-) And even now it is not clear if the album will be released...

And when the fans get bored because the don´t get new music the begin to talk about other things, that why we become so critical on discussing things which have nothing to do with his music.
We cant talk about new songs, new concerts or new interviews...only gosship :-)

He´s had a huge apparatus of output but a lifetime of pioneering forces him to be innovative all the time. Moreover, he is getting older and his position on the market has diminished. The capeman disaster has made him less confident, You´re The One did not sell extremely well (although it was nominated for a grammy) and people were hoping to see a Simon and Garfunkel album being released. On top of his perfectionism, there is a lot of pressure on him.

He has often gone against what his fans have expected - if you look at some of the bold decisions he has made: quitting S&G at the height of their popularity, trying his hand at acting, movie writing and directing, musicals etc.. I think he has grown to become even more interesting and unique in not always catering to the fans.

That said however, I think the reunions of S&G HAVE been catering to the fans, so he´s a bit of a dicotomy - that´s Libran´s for you! ;-)

I agree with you that it is very frustrating to have to wait this long, and Paul Simon´s fans can be very critical at times, so maybe he does hesitate in putting out material until he thinks it´s the best it can be. I´m sure he´s his own worse critic as well!

What does perfectionism or anything else have to do with not being sensitive to his fans? Let´s face it, he doesn´t want to record with Artie anymore - if he wanted to, he would - and don´t think Artie wouldn´t jump at the chance. Paul has only worked and toured with Artie in the last few years for financial reasons. Aftr all, I believe Paul really cares for him. My point is Paul wasn´t touring with Artie for the fans sake - get real.

Also, John Lennon´s five year semi-retirement didn´t last as long as Paul Simon´s six year silence. None of the other people I consider in the same caliber as Paul Simon are respectful to their fans needs regarding updates on their upoming projects. McCartney, Donald Fagen, Brian Wilson, all give out regular updates regarding their future projects - either directly or indirectly through other means. By the way, "disrespecful" is the correct word - just be glad I didn´t use the word "arrogance".

Um...my 2 cents. This is idolatry.

Who are WE to tell HIM when it is TIME for him to speak? And - I want to stress this - NOT because he is the great Paul Simon...but just because he is a free man (like you!)
What if he decides to retire altogether? What if this album will not be out till 2010?

What I´m saying is that one can feel dissappointed, not angry.

"just be glad I didn´t use the word "arrogance"."
If you won´t use it, I will. What would you call a person who knocks on your door to tell you that he/she feels that it is time for you to go to the movies!?!

Professional musicians are no different than a professional merchant. The only difference is that they use talent to produce their ´specialized´ product. It is in the interest of the person who sells and makes money off the public to show good-will toward them. There are many ways of doing this. I´m not "telling or asking Paul Simon" to do anything. All I´m doing is stating a fact about what he has not done, but in my opinion should do. Perhaps, since this is the main forum by which his fans can speak, Paul tunes in occassionally. If he does, perhaps he will see and read how his fans are getting aggravated by his continual silence and then do something about it. Again, one little note saying the album is still in production would be fine. I don´t believe this is asking too much from a "buyer" of his products. Good-will toward the fans - that´s all I´m asking. By the way, I´m not angry. I´m just stating facts.
