 | I´ve just embarked on a bit of a challenge to listen to all of Paul´s studio albums chronologically, from Wednesday Morning 3 AM to You´re The One, and I thought I´d say so on here, in case anyone wants to do the same. I feel like this way I´ll be completely prepared for the new one when it comes out! It also gives me chance to listen to Simon and Garfunkel´s output a bit more, because I am more a fan of Paul on his own, and sometimes skip the earlier stuff (apart from Hey School Girl, which rocks!).
It probably won´t be much of a challenge to you guys and gals!
All the best,

 | You should start with:
"Tom and Jerry Best of"
or at least with the
"Paul Simon Songbook" :-) |

 | Sorry....hit send before I was finished! :)
If you like "Hey Schoolgirl" you´ll probably like the rest of the Tom and Jerry stuff, its kind of in the same vein. |

 | I wanted to stick to studio albums rather than best of´s to begin with, so as not to confuse my tiny mind ;-). Also; didn´t he release the Paul Simon Songbook after Wednesday Morning 3 AM (just to be geeky!).

 | Oo, forgot to say, I also have a compilation of the Tom and Jerry stuff, called ´Two can dream alone´ which is probably the same collection with a different name?
I Love some of their early stuff, like Lone Teen Ranger and Tijuana Blues; very fun!

 | I´m just up to Graceland at the moment, and enjoying listening to this album again after a bit of a break. I sometimes don´t give this album the attention it deserves because I suppose with it being the most lauded of his solo albums, I like to champion the more under-appreciated ones, like Hearts And Bones (Amazing album) or One Trick Pony.
However, it is such an interesting album, and especially cool when you think that it took such guts and determination for him to dust himself off after the commercial and personal problems of the early 80´s and go in a completely new direction the way he did.
The album itself is a fascinating dicotomy - such sad, cynical, lonely lyrics set to such an upbeat and life-affirming soundtrack. In his lyrics he manages to both speak to the deapest fears, aspirations, hopes and fears of every person, and to take on and satirise the vacuous Yuppie culture of the time. The characters of the songs are succesful, yet miserable - they have acheived the American dream and are yet left feeling aloft and uncertain, apathetic or isolated within themselves.
Anyway, enough of my pretentious waffling - its a great album and it´s great to hear again.

 | Uh, you are way to fast with your challenge to be prepared for the new album... you should listen to 1 album per month, then you have a got chance to end with YTO when the new album will be released :-) |

 | Hahha! You´re right there! I started off pacing myself, and then got carried away! The music´s just so good, I have just ploughed through them far too quick! Maybe I could see if I could do it twice before the new one, ey?!
