1. He is often so shy and far away from his fan´s - even doesn´t give signatures.
2. He changes his mind very often - after making statements in the press what he will never do (like he will never tour, or never work with Art Garfunkel) (one good, one bad ;-)
3. He often doesn´t talk more than one sentence at a concert! (Thank you) At least introducing some of his songs would make a lot of sense
4. He is really a slow songwriter!
5. Now at the age of 64 he is still not sure if he should wear a toupet, a baseball cap or his last few hairs in a ugly comb over around his head. (think of the guy´s like james taylor, phil collins...and the other ex Genesis frontman..and many more)
6. He doesn´t like it that his fame isn´t as big as 15 years ago, he still want´s to fill stadions with 20.000 people or more and wants to earn a lot of money. Thats one of the main reason why he goes on tour with other musicians like Bob Dylan or Brian Wilson.
7. On stage he often moves around like a gay. Nothing against gay people now!..but it looks uncool. Many people ask if Paul Simon is gay.

-- I´ll write some reasons more, but I have to have my lunch now.

He spent several years to write (and star in) a film and a musical without his apppearance. First was too boring, second too daring.

How many songs could he have written instead - the answer is just blowing in the wind.

Yes Bodo, your point 6!

He doesn`t only go on stage with other musicians, but even with former schoolfriends, who don`t know much about music!

1 - he takes FOREVER to release albums!

2 - if either puts a cap or rug on his head and cleans up nice or he doesnt comb his hair at all (the little that he has) and looks like he should be living in an assisted living Old peoples home.

3 - he is too ambiguous. he said in an interview "i don´t believe in making points," so we never get to know things that i think we kind of deserve to know as his audience. at least throw us a bone every once in a while!!

4 - he hardly does talk at his shows. his music is such an intimate thing for us, yet when we finally get the chance to see him plays and acts as if we werent there almost.

5 - he takes FOREVER to come out with new albums!! ... oh wait ... did i already write that? well, it deserves to be listed twice!!

and Bodo, i agree with you on the way that he moves when he performs. it kind of seems forced and it kind of looks awkward.
:^)

Totally agree with your reasons, Bodo. The 2 main ones for me : each time, it takes too long to have a new album and he doesn´t communicate enough with his audiance on stage or with people in general through medias.

I agree with Bodo too...i prefer to say that otherwise, some people would think that we are biased...

I totally agree :-)
More reasons:
He seems to be so vain (toupeé, rumour of a face lift), I don´t really know why this annoys me, maybe because it doesn´t fit to the image I used to have of Paul when I started listening to his music: Someone who doesn´t care what people say of him
-yes, the gestures he does onstage really look strange
-he should finally kiss Art!

Yes he ignores what people think of him and whenever he feels to be put in a certain corner, he is talking about his other faces.

He is the real pop-music chameleon, which in this business is not an advantage.

Most of his collegues try to build up a certain image and keep their customers satisfied.

On the other hand he is brutally honest to himself. He is automatically sceptical when many people say the same.

Only that he is a very slow songwriter and has allowed too many compilation albums in comparison the new releases. The rest are just personality traits an don´t bother me at all, as a matter of fact, they seem to make him more human like the rest of us.

I agree with the hair thing...a man who at 64 is wearing a baseball cap pretty much 24/7 is annoying.

In 1980 he stated: "So far I devoted my whole life to music."

Sounded a little bit as there has to be something else. For us, who admire his music, we have problems with that.

But I think in 1992 he had plans to retire more or less completely, finally seemed lucky as husband and father, wanted to write songs for other things and not going on tour. The Born At The Right Time tour with over 150 shows and millions of visitors was probably the most ambitious and expensive concert project ever.

The failure of the capeman changed his mind - we should be grateful it did. He could have reacted with total absence from the scene.

When I see him now I have the feeling he knows he could live without his job, but also knows he can make people a little bit more happy.

In 1984 this was completely different. He felt guilty having made much money, having recently done something wrong for his fans and had no future in the business, when looking at it realistically. And was devorced again.

The future belonged to Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen. Dylan, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell were out.

lol i hate having my illusions about paul broken, but i must admit yes he sometimes looks a bit silly on stage. (i used to call this ´cute´). Well I guess I don´t mind it when he seems really at ease and is smiling broadly and everything, but otherwise it looks kind of overdone (one of the things i dislike about the Old Friends dvd). I don´t understand - he didn´t always perform like this. CP91 - best concert i´ve seen, and he didn´t have to stand still to look good, he moved around and he looked great. so what changed?

Hmmm, I guess I don´t agree with number 3, number 5, or the last bit. The reason is: he´s an artist. Not an MTV performer. Part of the appeal of his songwriting is that he´s so introspective and neurotic. I like it.
What annoys me? I suppose if I went to a show I would want some audience interaction at least. But as a shy person myself, I can understand.
