 | I´m sorry Erthsfirefly but I have never told my children they must remain quiet if they have nothing nice to say !!! They are free to talk and I hope they will always be !
As I think we have the right here (but it´s Bodo´s site so, only him will be able to tell us if we go too far) to say why we don´t appreciate Art (and we have never insulted him !). I´m living in a country where freedom of opinion still exists and where we still can express it and that´s priceless. |

 | In Germany Paul Simon really did not make it solo until Graceland. So when I got aware that Simon solo is at least as good or even better than S&G, around 1974, I felt very depressed when their names were always linked.
And my friends heard S&G and Cat Stevens, because he was so good looking.
Simon himself made a lot of mistakes with his ex-partner. He first intended to put "My Little Town" only on his album!
He was invited to the park in 1981 and did a whole show and toured with him; everybody expected a new S&G-album and he had his first flop, not only for this reason, a very introspective work.
What he did with him since 1986 was more "charity-work". (As he did with more homeless children in NY, sorry for this one joke).
But I was very surprised why he allowed him to tell the people about "their" time in England on the last tour. |

 | Oh come on! This was just meant to be an fun thread to kill some time (and not Artie)! I have the feeling some people here interpret way too much in this. And just because Art gets on some people´s nerves, it doensn´t mean we hate him or wish him anything bad. Nor do I understand the connection to any political issues... |

 | Oh yes, I agree with Art being arrogant :-)
During S&G´s introduction to the Rock ´n Roll Hall of Fame he says he wants to thank God for giving him that voice... |

 | So, now I´m allowed to post here too as I already started my own
´Why Paul get´s on my nervs thread´:-)
A lot of things have been already said - but one thing is really nerving:
He ALWAYS tells the same jokes at his concerts now since... I don´t know, since 40 years?
Does he really think most of his audience is already suffering from alzheimer.... or they are still craza after all these years?
Or does he think people only come to his shows for 1 time - and then never again, so the joke is new for them (I believe it´s the 3th reason ;-)
The Garfunkel and Simon joke...the I wrote Mrs. Robinson joke...
And about his voice. Well it doesn´t sound good anymore for me, but I guess thats a thing of taste. I like his voice on songs like ´a heart in NY´ and ´All I know´ or ´Bright Eyes´, but today Paul Simon has the only good voice on stage of them. Art sounds hoarse |

 | I´m sorry if I sounded uptight to anyone its just.....it seemed like you were being overly critical.
I was always raised to keep bad opinions to myself so it bothers me sometimes when others don´t.
Artie may be arrogant but then again alot of celebrities are...so nothing new there.
Bodo, you´re a good man. |

 | ErthsFirefly - your opinion is absolutely respected, you don´t have to be sorry.
When people here say bad things about Art Garfunkel it is most of the time only a joke... and I guess this whole discussion was meant as a joke, like all these lists you can read in celeb magazines (the 10 most nerving movie stars...with Tom Cruise on top)
So, who are the 10 most nerving Paul Simon fan´s, seen trough Paul´s eyes? :-) |

 | The only thing that bugs me about Art is that he likes to record "whimpy" songs. He has been Blessed with a great voice and I would like to see him use it in a more commercial sense so more people would appreciate his talents. |

 | I´ve said it before, but I would really really like to see Art do "The Capeman" soundtrack...just because all he sings are ballady type songs, and come on...I know there are others who would like to hear him singing about puerto rican dope dealing punks right? |

 | Phooey.
I hate this kinder, gentler crap.
Artie´ll live if he gets goofed on and if the French find him annoying, at least they learned from their misguided Love for Jerry Lewis... |

 | Well we could go on all night about this, but I´m affraid I agree with what ErthsFirefly said.
I work with children and know first hand what harm ´humurous´ comments can make. And I know personally what harm they can do and yes, such remarks can kill. In the UK we have had plenty of children take their own lives because they can´t cope with such things.
And so I could image that if Paul or Art saw such comments that deep down it may hurt.
Enough said.
Hugs
