 | Let Mr. Poet speak:
The Joe DiMaggio line was written right away in the beginning. And I don´t know why or where it came from. It seems so strange, like it didn´t belong in that song and then, I don´t know, it was so interesting to us that we just kept it.

 | Paul is a Yankees´ fan...grew up with the Yankees in NYC...Joe DiMaggio played from 1936-1951 for the Yankees...was one of the best...one of his nicknames was Joltin´ Joe...the other was The Yankee Clipper...had gone away (retired) when the song was written....The story goes that when DiMaggio first heard the song, he was not happy...thought maybe he was being insulted....then grew to like it...when DiMaggio died...and there was a tribute at the ball park, PS came and sang Mrs. Robinson...... |

 | In 1968, the culmination of protest against the Vietnam-war and elections in the US (Nixon, Simon`s only real political enemy won, as he did in 1972, the result was "American Tune"), this line meant a lot for many Americans.
Maybe the best known of his lyrics, Mrs. Robinson has the most airplay in the US of all his songs till today.
Simon was a fan of Mickey Mantle, another famous and younger base-ball-player, who wasn`t lucky about this line too. Simon had to explain him, that his name would not work in it. |

 | Hey,
I have a question in case anyone knows. I was wondering in the graduate when they play mrs. robinson as well as in other simon and garfunkel songs there is a person whistling, does anyone know who that is. What i mean is it Simon, or Garfunkel, or is it like synthetic sound? Perhaps a strange question. |

 | I believe it´s Paul, but I´m not really sure. He´s good at whistling solos though, look at Me and Julio! |
