Well, let´s hope his voice stays good for some more years, I don´t want to think about no more new albums from Paul. Let´s first look forward to this one and enjoy it.
It´s still sad that there was so little appreciation for The Capeman, but who knows, maybe some day in the future it will get the appreciation it deserves, maybe a project for one of his children to do some day.... |

If I think about composing and singing, it comes to mind that there is no Paul-Simon-solo-song which became a hit.
Some S&G-songs like The sound of silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Two songs sung by S&G were bigger Hits for others: Feelin groovy and A Hazy Shade Of Winter for the Bangles. Red Rubber Ball was not released.
Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen definitely can`t sing, no official choir would have taken them. They could do "Happy birthday" privately for their parents or so.
Consequently Dylans biggest Hits were "Blowin`in the wind" for the Hollies and "Mr. Tambourine man" for the Byrds. He saw the single chart with "Like a Rolling stone" or "Knockin on heavens door" on a smaller level.
Leonard Cohens Hit was "Suzanne", but the greatest Cohen-album is "Famous blue raincoat" from Jennifer Warnes, recommendable. |

Well, I think in the next years his output will become less and less... (while he could still sing and tour).. Thats always the same thing with most musicians.
I expect around 2 more albums after this one...in the next 10 - 15 years. :-( |

| Yes, Brandy, I know. I forgot the point "songs of Simon and S&G SUNG BY OTHERS".
S&G and especially Simon himself do the best interpretation of Simons songs. They did not release "Red Rubber Ball" as single.
When asked for his worst song in 1986, Simon typically thought about about it for 20 seconds, and then replied:
"I don`t know about the worst song (as we know him, too many came into his mind!), but I can name the worst Hit I ever wrote, "Red Rubber ball". I wrote it for 100 pounds, because I needed money to pay rent".
Well, for Bruce Woodley of the Seekers, who regarded himself as Co-composer, this might be not true. |
