 | Quoting Bodo:
"For me Paul Simon has nearly nothing to do with S&G, even in his early solo songs like Mother And Child Reunion or 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover I can´t find any connection to S&G.
So I would be happy if Paul Simon would be as much known as today (Nobody knows him, thats really the sad fact), but if he would NOT be known as the Simon from S&G."
This may sound strange but I do not understand what you mean. For me everything is Paul Simon music and that it is only Art who lends his voice and maybe has had a very tiny input in some songs.
For me there are no typical S&G songs which wouldn´t perfectly suit as a Paul Simon song.
Am I the only one who feels this way or is Bodo the odd one out?? ( only kidding Bodo :D )

 | well yeah i see sense in that.
especially since paul did write the songs, so they are kind of his songs. maybe not exactly how he wanted them, but he would have made more decisions about them than anyone else. they´re like Paul Simon songs from another era (but then quite a few of his solo albums seem like that too) | | | | Callista Dec-16-2005, 07:14 GMT

 | All of Paul´s songs, are HIS songs....even though he may not think much of them anymore, they still represent Paul through different stages of his life. Everything from the Lone Teen Ranger to Hurricane eye. I say, stop arguing about it and Love it all!
(with the exception of Pig´s, Sheep´s and Wolves that is.....:(

Germany
 | S & G sold nearly 100 Million albums worldwide and had three evergreen-hits, played in super-markets and elevators still today (SOS, Mrs. Robinson and BOTW, as well-known as "Yesterday" or "Hey Jude" by Lennon/Mccartney). "El Condor Pasa" or "Cecilia" are also more popular than "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" or "Loves Me Like A Rock".
You cannot expect everybody knows that Simon wrote all songs.
Simon had several hits and sold about 30 to 40 million albums worldwide. With Graceland he made an album regarded as one of the most important of all time, more important than Bookends or BOTW. But it contained no big hit despite more than 14 Million sales. But in fact "You Can Call Me Al" is the favorite in his concerts.
He won most of his grammies alone.
But this is more for music-lovers and critics.
Also, in German-speaking countries his success is far below than in the US, Canada or UK.
But before Graceland and ROTS the situation was worse! | | | | lycorn Dec-16-2005, 14:21 GMT

 | S&G songs were generally easier to listen, memorize and play on the guitar than many "PS-only" songs, particularly the ones written for Graceland and subsequent albums. I have been a lifetime fan of Paul Simon, and Love his Old songs from the S&G era, but I consider the period of Graceland and the following albums the best in his creative process. Unfortunately, as I said, many people couldn´t dissociate PS from S&G, and there were many that felt "something" was missing in those albums ("Where is Garfunkel???..."). And for me, one of the reasons I consider those albums sogood, is precisely because they do not contain any smash hit, that would fill people´s ears with its loud noise and eclipse the rest of the songs. Those albums (Graceland, ROTS, SFC, Ur the 1)are homogeneous pieces of work, with an outstanding overall quality! | | | | lycorn Dec-16-2005, 14:28 GMT
