if YOU could choose, who would you have paul record with? My choice would be Peter Gabriel hands down. I know they both admire each others work and i´m sure it would be a monumental sucess

I have three actually. My first choice would be Eric Clapton. Eric is another great guitarist/ singer/songwriter who is very diverse in his style. It would be interesting to see what they would come up with.
Believe it or not I think Paul MacCartney would be another great choice. Hearing those two legends together in a new album would be awesome.
My third choice would be Green Day.( I am sure at this point people are checking their screen to make sure that I actully wrote that and that it´s not a screen error.)
To me, for what it´s worth, Green Day is actually a modern group that has some good lyrics and music to go with it. It makes you think. Paul´s music is the same way. One good Green Day song to me that is Paulesque in nature is Good Riddance(Time of Your Life). The lyrics and video were very profound and worth taking a look at.
Okay, now that I think about it I have to add a fourth....EDIE BRICKELL!!! I think just the name speaks for itself!

Peter Gabriel is a nice idea, it never came to my mind before but it sounds interesting.
But I can not imagine Paul recording with another really famous songwriter, because then he only has 50% influence on the result and this wouldn´t make him happy maybe. If you have an idea and can only produce it half as good as you want it (even if people might think it is better now) then you will not be happy.

Paul Macca and Simon sound very similar (their voices today) so I think this wouldnt bring a lot of new Possibilities when they record together.
I think he sounds best when singin with someone who has a very deep voice (how about Joe Cocker, he also is not a songwriter..) or singin together with another woman (like his woman, or Norah Jones (too famous at the moment,
Aretha Franklin, Mercedes Sosa...

I don´t like duets. I don´t believe they have ever worked. Harmonizing is a different story. I´m changing my mind about a S&G album. I agree with Bodo. It´s my wish Paul overdubs his harmonies himself. He has an incredible voice that is much underrated. He didn´t really find his proper voice until his first solo album in my opinion. I would had preferred only Paul singing instead of dueting with James Taylor and Randy Newman. The songs would have been better. So, I´m looking for a new album like You´re The One, only better.

So I will have to post my real answer, and this may Surprise a lot of you......but I would Love to see Paul perform with a woman. And I think a perfect match would be Tracy Chapman. Now, I don´t suppose I could handle a whole album, but one or two tracks, thoughtfully put together would be nice. Can´t justify why, it´s just something I can imagine to be good. Even if you all think me mad!!

Tracy Chapman was really good - but that was 10 - 15 years ago now... sadly.
She had so much power and all songs were just perfect, she really pulled out her feelings with her voice and guitar. But the last 2 - 3 albums are just boring and quiet and harmless.

But I can´t connect Paul and Tracy in my head... I have the song ´Fast car´ and ´Graceland´ in my head and try to figure out how that should sound together ...no idea :-)

I liked Tracy Chapman a lot with her first recordings but I don´t think, their voices would blend. Maybe Suzanne Vega?

LOL David - you really mustn´t say "I would Love to see Paul perform with a woman". In English that means they would be making beautiful music together...

Yes, Mimi, Suzanne Vega. For me she comes next to Paul Simon, in quality and style.

Her kind of phrasing is similar, she is from New York too.

Maybe with Michelle Shocked? after all, she made a cover of "Stranded In A Limousine"...
But Edie Brickell is my favorite: they made a very good job on "Blue eyes are crying in the rain"...but in another side, Edie deserves not being always related to Paul, so just one song in duet could be great, not a whole album...

Hm Marieno, I think this would be very dangerous for Paul! Look at Sonny and Cher, Ike and Tina Turner, The Eurythmics. They were all once lovers and then parted, the worst was, the woman survived!!

So Michelle Shocked or Suzanne Vega are ok, they are too Old for Paul as lovers. Both over forty!
