 | Bodo,
We did write almost the same thing! But I think most Paul Simon fans feel the same way.
Look I agree with you about people starting up their own Art Garfunkel web site. You did it for Paul, so I assume that others with the same driving passion for Artie can do the same for him! I am sure too that there are many S&G forums out there for people to chat on. I know the Paul versus Artie thing has always been a sore spot for everyone here.I really hate it when things turn to this topic oin the forum because I know where it will lead, besides in my opinion, it really is an Old topic. It is time to move on to a more important topic....Paul´s new album!!!!

 | You can´t compare the Capeman with another new S&G album.
That really has nothing in common. Paul Simon had total creative control over everything on the Capeman. |

 | The sentiments (and the language!) of the Capeman and S&G albums are also a bit different don´t you think? |

 | I would Love it, when he would not be known as a part of S&G.
When someone asks he what music I like and I answer ´Paul Simon´ then Nobody knows about who am I talking. Some years ago I always made the mistake and said: He is the Simon from Simon&Garfunkel. Oh, really, ah, interesting - and everyone thought that I am a Simon and Garfunkel fan and like this kind of music (especially this kind) - and that´s absolutely not true. I like rhythm and I like to dance to the music. For me Paul Simon has nearly nothing to do with S&G, even in his early solo songs like Mother And Child Reunion or 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover I can´t find any connection to S&G.
So I would be happy if Paul Simon would be as much known as today (nobody knows him, thats really the sad fact), but if he would NOT be known as the Simon from S&G.
BTW: I never mention now that he was part of that duo... a lot of people know the song You Can Call Me Al (and they are really surprised when I tell them that this is the same Simon as the guy from S&G)

 | That would be great coming from Art, who reffered to the graffiti on the subway wall "the Old familiar suggestion" :) |

 | I wasn´t comparing the music in terms of style or lyrics... I was only mentioning the Capeman as an effort that was highly collaborative in terms of other voices, and not just in terms of backup singers. If the new album happens to have AG featured on a couple of prominent songs, in essence that would be no different than sharing the spotlight on the Capeman album in terms of lead or major vocal performances. The music is different and "total control" of the music, whatever that means, is behind the scenes anyway.
Should PS decide that a couple of tunes favor AG´s input then so be it.
I tend to prefer PS´s solo work as it is more pleasing to my ear in general but the enhancement that Art can add to certain arrangements has certainly been musically validated over the years. |
