Have heard the version on the extended Graceland-Album as bonus several times. Can`t hear any Ladysmith-member. I think it`s ALL Simon alone, maybe he used a studio trick with the bass-singing. Why telling or using someone else for something probably being a flop?

Recorded October 10, 1985. Could well be the tape he then sent to Joseph Shabalala to give him something he could use. But it is nearly the essential song.

Perfect background singing and imitation work, Mr. Simon!

I think Paul wrote the song with the knowledge he wanted to "use" Lady Smith Black Mambazo. And I think he made a good choice. Not because Paul his background singing is bad; it´s really good. But with Lady Smith Black Mambazo he could mix up an American part in the song with the African part. And, the warmth in the song of a black choir like Lady Smith Black Mambazo couldn´t exist with only Paul singing.

Nearly the essential song?
All I can hear is 1 line, repeated for 30-40 times.

I agree, this could be the part he send to Joseph, but the main lyrics and everything around was written by Joseph then.

OK, only one line, but I think, the feeling of the whole song with the whole group is very well
"given" in advance.
