 | I am curious to know why I havethe Stars and Stripes? I did check to make sure I was where I was supposed to be in the fan list and I am....UK. So I´m rather perplexed as why my flag is wrong....any ideas?

 | You are using AOL - It is AOL-Europe but they are using US-IP Addresses. I don´t know why they do that.
You´r country is identified by the IP Address, not by your fan-database entry (because everyone can post here, no one has to log-in) |

 | Jeroen,
was that remark meant for me? And if so, what is wrong with me stating that?

 | Dear Amber, to me The United States don´t seem that ideal a country to live in, considering the Bush administration and recent climactic misfortune. Of course, that is all personal. If I have been to aggressive stating that I´m sorry. |

 | Hi Joeroen,
thank you for explaining.
Let me ask you: what do you think of our country then? We participate in the war in Iraq too ( I don´t know if that is someting you were targeting at, but that is a reason for many people to dislike the US ).
Do you like the fact that we invest a lot of money into the queen and her family?
That we the taxpayers pay for their luxury even though the elderly in the resthomes can not take a shower every day because there is a lack of personel due to the economy measures?
Well, it is indeed true that every country has its problems, and even thuogh i do not like Bush ( may sound stupid, but I don´t dare to say what I really think of him here on the internet )I Love the United States. I have been there 3 times for a holiday ( each time one month ) and it is my absolute favourite country. I love the people, except for some republicans of course!
So that´s why I said I wouldn´t mind having a US flag next to my name.
Talking politically I coulnd´t say which flag I want actually.
May be a country without an army.
I first thought of Iceland because I have an icelandic horse, but since they particpate in whale hunting I will have to skip that one too. LOL

 | All true. I like the United States as a symbol for the strength of human powers or moral audacity. It may be an anachronism but the mayflower people did try to escape traditional continental values in order to live a more virtuous life, whatever is left of that. America is powerful and internationally potent and, as a result, everything it does as a nation receives massive attention, including support and criticism. Right now, though, some things seem to transgress what I (who an I to say that?) consider measures that better human living. Then again, I think that Mr. Bush means well Mr Balkenende wouldn´t do much better. It´s all so complex. I´m happy with my flag but wouldn´t mind the stars and stripes. I like the national anthem better than ours.

 | What´s wrong with "the Wilhelmus" (national anthem of the Netherlands) , Jeroen ;-)?
IMO: I like the Netherlands way better then America. And I think all the negative things about the Netherlands are irrelitive (i mean the showering of Old people)because we have one of the best socialistic care in the world. We pay the most of all EU-countries to the EU of all the countries (maybe it´s stupid, but i think we can pay a lot then Poland or something).
And of course there´s nothing above a nice dinner with " boerenkool en unox-worst"!!! |

 | The USA are also my favourite holiday country - and I also was there for 3 times Amber :-)
But I´m also happy that my country doesn´t participate on that war (well we are even not allowed, but also refused the USA to fly over our country), well I´m happy that they don´t say anything (pro or contra) because that keeps us out of the terrorists eye´s.
So after all, I don´t know any better country to live in. All our problems are harmless (and even if all other countries in the EU say that we have Haider and we are Nazis or whatever - we know it better that this is not true)
I don´t know too much about the Netherlands to tell you if I want to live there. You have the sea (but not a warm sea) but no mountains ;-) The Netherlands are known here because a lot of young people want to go there and take drugs... well, that´s not really what impresses me, thats a bad image of a country I would say.
In that case I would prefer the USA, because they allow drinking alcohol only at the age of 21. (that doesn´t mean I have something against alcohol or don´t drink - but I know how much our 14 years Old do drink just because they think that this is cool)
So every country has it´s disadvantages ;-)
For me the USA are the best country for holidays because the scenery is so different all over the country (well it is also in Europe) and you have the same language everywhere (here in Austria I can drive 15 miles and wouldn´t understand one word :-) )
and it is possible to eat their food. (accentuation on _possible_)
P.S. I have eaten Dutch food a few times and would say it is even possible to eat that - but I never asked what it really was, or what are the ingredients of all that muddle. :-)
