 | I guess the chance is good Micky. The even have aired the 9/11 concert live on our Austrian TV stations. (think that was the only time I saw Paul Simon on TV since the 1998 Bernadette clip) | | | Brandy Sep-07-2005, 21:15 GMT

 | It really touches me to see how genuine Paul´s relief efforts -- and that of his Children´s Health Fund team -- are. It is a good feeling to know that someone I look up to is not only a brilliant and talented artist, but also a caring person with a big heart. He is trying to make a difference and I am very proud to be his fan. Every little counts. | | | Micky Sep-07-2005, 21:42 GMT

 | I hope you´re right Bodo, I just know how pants they can be about stuff like that in the UK. We tend to be very hit and miss.
I watched the interview with Paul and Irwin, Paul looked so nervous shift from one foot to the other and more quietly spoken than normal. But I know he was incredibly shocked by what happend and he said he has family in New Orleans who had to run from Katrina. They´ve lost everything and got as far as aplace called Pearl. Apparently that was as far as they could get on the gas they had in their tank.

 | You are right Brandy, Paul is a good men. He has not only the money to do something, he also spends his time and went down to New Orleans, Biloxi a.s.o. He is really there with his heart.
I hope you don´t missunderstand me when I say that I EXPECT that from rich people, movie stars, musicians, sportsman a.s.o - especially in the USA.
Some do help, some send some money, some do nothing.
Why do I expect it? Because in the USA you don´t have a good social system like we have in many European countries. If you earn so much money like Paul Simon (or even much richer people) you will have to pay enormous taxes in Europe (thats why a lot of stars live in Monaco..). In the USA you don´t pay that much, you can get very rich (on the costs of a good social system, and on the cost of more help for victims of this Hurricane...) - so it is a normal act IMO that these rich people should give a lot of money. And on the other side, it is even a big promotion for them, they are on TV worldwide (Sean Penn gave interviews to every TV station he meet I guess, even to our Austrian TV..., also Paul Simon is mentioned in our Newspapers here!). I know Paul isn´t doing it for his promotion, I guess no one is doing it for that - but no doubt, it is promotion and normaly Warner wouldn´t pay 10 Cent to promote Paul Simon....
So I expect them to give money, give even MORE money. These 2 mobile clinics which will stay in N.O. for a long time, as Paul said, are missing now in other cities I think.

 | I so much hope we can see this in Europe.
I didn´t know that Paul had family in New Orleans. Maybe he means Edie´s family since she comes from Texas? | | | Bodo Sep-08-2005, 13:17 GMT

 | I agree Bodo, usually when you marry someone there family become yours or at least that´s how it works in my family anyway.
I did see an interview with APul and Irwin on the NBC web site. They were interviewed by the Today Show and he said they were also taking two vans to Louisianna (sorry if that´s spellt wrong....I´m tired and been up since 5:30 am...lol). I´ll look for the link and post it.

 | I agree, Bodo, that many show-stars are very rich. And have no understanding for those like Willie Nelson, Mick Fleetwood or Michael Jackson, who get poor again because of taking wrong advise.
But how many want to get famous but don`t make it? Nobody talks about them (except Simon in "Jonah").
One has to know that most (80 percent) Americans came from Europe and were the poor people of their time here, as Simon`s grandfather. Poverty was the main reason to leave for the "New world". This explains also, why only few Americans know about their forefathers - they don`t want to, although most of them came about or less than 100 years ago.
This is one reason, that private efforts are much more liked and needed than here. | | | |
