The forum seems to have a wide and varied interest in good music in general.I would be interested if anyone knows what happened to John Lennon´s black Rickenbacker guitar that he used in the Beatles?(or for that matter any of Simon´s vintage guitars from the 60s)??....Simon´s sound was so much better and clearer in the 60s recordings.

I don´t know about any of Simon´s guitars, but as for John´s...

His son, Sean Lennon now owns it, but for a while it was displayed in the Lennon museum in Japan.

Oh, that was his first Rickenbacker... but I think the one you´re talking about is still on display in Japan.

He´s owned too many Rickenbackers... :P

I think that Simon still owns most of his guitars. I guess that the most notable exception is the black Ovation guitar that he used in Central Park 1981. According to some articles, it was given to Carrie Fisher as a gift and later sold (by an auction) by her, as well as some other gifts he gave her (like a watch).

The sound was different (I don´t dare saying better or worse :-))in the sixties for several reasons:
- analog recording on tape;
- guitar was recorded with a microphone and not through an internal pick up;
- the arrangements were simpler, so guitars stands out better.
