I read an interview in which Paul says he doesn´t write much with the guitar, and that he uses the studio and other guitarists, etc., and he just instructs them what to play. That everything is in his head, etc. Do any of you understand this technique of writing?

In the past he wrote on his guitar. This must be very recent.

I don´t think it´s that recent - I would guess it goes back to Graceland or even before. As a musician, you get to know how chord sequences and music works. So it´s comparatively easy to put together a chord sequence in your head, because you know how it will sound. A basic example: recently I was playing for some friends, and someone jokingly mentioned Take Me Home Country Roads. So I plyed it straight away, no problem, even though I´ve never played it before or seen the music. Because the structure is a simple one, so you pick a key and play the structure. The clever part is coming up with original arrangements and orchestrations of these sequences, as Paul has. That´s why he´s a multi-millionaire and I´m not!
