 | Even in the time of CD`s they are more than just packing. They content the lyrics and informations about musicians and so on. There is a famous book from Rolling Stone "The 100 greatest album covers".
Simons are boring, with the exception of "There goes rhymin`Simon".
Wednesday morning: blurred photo of two unhappy but so talented men.
Sounds Of Silence. The same.
Parsley sage... : more happy and not blurred, but the same.
Bookends: quite good portrait, not to Simons advantage...
Bridge: blurred and boring.
Paul Simon: boring.
There goes: interesting, each song with an intelligent illustration.
Still crazy: boring.
Greatest Hits: What an artful man and photo, boring.
One-Trick Pony: a man without illusions anymore as in the film, boring.
Hearts And Bones: blurred and... boring.
Graceland: a shy sign of African culture, saying nothing important, but ok.
The rhythm of: a blurred... boring.
Songs From The Capeman: reminds on Graceland, boring.
You`re the one: boring.
It`s time that talented designers (Marieno, gipsy) improve this sad situation. |

 | Can you give us some examples of album covers you consider to be interesting/exciting? |

 | Yes I can, and please don`t consider my topic as very important. I never thought about it until last week, when I tried to calm down hopes of a near new Simon-album.
Pink Floyd`s "Dark side of the moon" is classic. As King Crimsons
"Court of the Crimson King".
Or Emerson Lake and Palmers "Pictures of an exhibition".
Cat Stevens` and Joni Mitchells self styled albums.
And Paul Simons "There goes rhymin`Simon".
I don´t possess the book of the 100 "most exciting covers", because I am more interested in the contents too.
Nowadays the share of cost of it in CD-Production is not nearly as big as it was in the Yinyl-days until the mid-80`s.
The whole cover was regularly more expensive in production than the pressing of the record.

 | the cover of TGRS reminds me of an album 10CC had out around the same time, with an image representing each of the songs on the album.
As for interesting covers Al Stewart´s "year of the cat" is one IMO esp for cat lovers:-) |

 | I´m not sure to be able to improve the situation...maybe if Rolling Stone makes a book about the 100 worst album covers...
By the way, i like the "Paul Simon" cover very much: the simple pic of a clever, funny, talented man... |

 | I Love the Bookends cover. :)
I think the best album cover ever is the Beatles´ ´Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band´. :) |
