 | The music industry is now accusing website owners which have song-lyrics on their site.
For every song lyric they have to pay 1600 Euros (I don´t want to calculate how mach that would be for this site)
After accusing people for having links to other sites (thats what the internet originally was for)
Accusing people for downloading songs, and downloading movies this is the next step.
So what should I do? I can close the lyrics site. I don´t know if Paul Simon or his management get any of this 1600 Euros, or if they even want to sue their fan site. But the industry does.
When I think on, the next logical step would be to sue sites because they use illegal pictures. Well, 90% of the pictures here are illegal in their therms. So after that step I have to close the site.
I guess it´s also not allowed to write a biography without the permission of the person, and I´m not sure if I´m allowed to show you a discography of his albums.
So this site maybe has to close these sections in the next few months
covers
multimedia
bootlegs
articles
pictures
links
discography
guitar chords
biography
translations
Happy new world. |

 | Crazy. Mad. Insane. Stupid. If they´re threatening to close the site, then I suggest you just keep going until they close it. don´t give in to the big bullies of the music industry, where the emphasis is very much on industry, not music. |

 | That´s really and completely stupid because as Alain said, it would be the end of the Internet ! I don´t know a site that then wouldn´t have any "unlegal" materials !
Wait and see Bodo : I´m sure there is an other solution than closing ! |

 | This is just plain dumb. I´m sure the majority of us using this site have purchased all of Paul´s albums anyway, so what´s the harm? |

 | Have you seen any news websites online that say this? I would like to see so that I can start a petition! |

 | They really become hysterical...do they really think that a site like this one is a danger for the musical industry?!?! |

 | If it´s true...then it really sucks.
This would be ridiculous.
Bodo, If you have to close your site...I will sell all my Simon stuff on ebay and donate money to the third world.
I should have done this years ago.

 | I hope it won´t be necessary, I would really miss this site.
And what about the official websites, the offical site of Paul has also all the lyrics.... |

 | Wow that´s strange. I never heard anything about sites violating copyright laws just posting song lyrics. Did you hear about this from a reliable news source? You might want to follow up on that information first before you do anything. |

 | Why closing the site ? Wouldn´t it be enough to delete the lyrics-section ? I mean, the forum and picture galleries etc are still legal, or did I miss something ?
But I don´t think that they will really ask you (Bodo) to change anything on the homepage.
And if this whole story is part of a campaign of the musicindustry against internet-users, I will not hesitate and sell all the stuff too, as Jesse said. Not before i copied all of the discs before, of course ;o)
And I have the strange feeling that when the music-industry goes on with this behavior, some hackers are going to f**k up their servers soon.
(I know I would...if I only could, I surely would.. ;o) )

 | Ans, the official site is the only one which has the right to show the lyrics. :-)
That was always the problem with the official site, for every bit and byte they (Joey?) had/has to ask for a copyright permission. That´s so complicated that you never see anything new on this site.
And yes Bee this are reliable news, it was on the news over here. The interesting thing is that this time it didn´t start in the USA, it started in Germany...
If you don´t believe it, then see how many search results you find on google here in other discussion forums about that problem
(search for "lyrics abmahnung")
http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&q=lyrics+abm ahnungen&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=
It´s sometimes incredible what these lawyers are doing, it looks like as if they are sending bills of 1600 Euros to every person they can find, and because it´s from a lawyer some people might pay because they are afraid of problems they get - and the rest has to fight for their right.

 | I think it would be necessary that Paul Simon or his representants bring an action again the site. it would not be very intelligent to attack the "best fans". :-)

 | That explains why the official site has so little news and material and we all know Paul´s management;-)
I understand they have the right but when they are already available on the official site what harm is there that fansites also show them, or is there some stupid rule that you are only allowed to read them and not copy them from the official site ;-))???
I always wondered why so many capeman songs are available on the official site.

 | I don´t have a clue Ans :-)
It´s like the thing with newspapers and pictures. And I´m sure this will come next...ok for now it´s hard to search for a special picture, because you can´t describe it. But maybe they will search for Old newspaper articles... |
