Greets to all! I am trying to locate the original recordings for the two live performances on "Paul Simon: Greatest Hits, Etc." As you all know, the two songs performed live, on this album, are "Duncan" and "American Tune." However, I cannot seem to locate what performances they actually are and where one can find them, outside of this "Greatest Hits" package. Your help and wisdom is greatly appreciated!!

They are from the Live Rhymin album AFAIK, and Nobody knows on which (different) locations this album has been recorded

If you want to get them without buying the entire Album check the online music stores. The German shop Musicload has nearly all Simon albums. Here´s the link to the "Live rhymin´" album.

I´m not sure that American Tune isn´t a different version from Live Rhymin´. I seem to remember it is a live version with strings on the Greatest Hits etc collection ?

I appreciate the responses... however, a wrinkle has been introduced. I was told (locally) that the live versions on the PAUL SIMON COLLECTION could be the same ones as GREATEST HITS, ETC. The wrinkle is that the PAUL SIMON COLLECTION may have a different mix of the same performances as on GREATEST HITS, ETC. Have you guys ever heard that?
More importantly to my original question, if LIVE RHYMIN´ is "the" definitive location for the live cuts from GREATEST HITS, ETC., where can one find the best master pressings of this CD? Here in the states, LIVE RHYMIN´ is not one of Paul´s remastered CDs. So, where can one find "the" best audio master of this CD, england, japan? Perhaps, a special "remastered version" exists?

"Live Rhymin`" is one of the best sounding live records ever. Until today. So "Duncan" live is ok.

"American Tune" live was recorded later (guess in 1976), as really better version than the somehow lush arranged one on "There goes rhymin`Simon".

Simon went to England to record this song with Cat Stevens Producer Paul Samwell-Smith.

He should have done it himself.

Difficult question. Guess that Simon owns these albums, but only the three studio albums plus Live rhymin` (No.7599-25590-2) were released on Warners after originally being on Columbia/CBS.

Now the three again plus later ones are released as really better remastered versions (worth the money!) with some "trial-stuff" (better than many official recordings of other artists).

So Live rhymin` is available on Warners in a good version.

Greatest Hits Etc. on CBS (Europe) No. 01-086047-10. Since "Stranded In A Limousine" is on the remastered One-trick pony album, the only missing tracks are "Slip slidin`away", available on many compilations afterwards and "American Tune", sung higher than on Live Rhymin`and There goes rhymin` Simon, also with some (not too many) strings.

As Simon was not on tour from 1976 until 1980, it could have been recorded on Jimmy Carter`s inauguration. He sang it there.

The name "Paul Simon Collection" is not an official release. In case of doubt I would prefer the other ones.
