 | After listening to "Paul Simon" straight through for probably the hundreth time it has been reestablished that this is in fact one of the best albums ever created. I invite everyone to listen to it straight through and tell me it isn´t the most amazing thing ever made. It is song writing at its finest! This belongs in every music fan´s CD collection yet is little known outside Paul Simon fan circles. Doesn´t even crack Rolling Stone magezine top 500 albums ever made?
I thought it needed to be said.

 | One reason for making it so different from the too sweet S&G-sound was obviously to show the world, that P.S. was more than one half of S&G.
For critics, it was the start of Paul Simon to be one of the really meaningful and great musicians. It was successful too, even more in England than in the U.S., contrary to it`s two also great followers (Rhymin`and Still crazy).
It contained some difficult/unusual songs like "Armistice day", "Everything put together" or "Hobo`s Blues and Paranoia Blues", not expected by S&G-Fans.
The first half of the seventies was the time, when the quality of music was more rewarded than ever in my view. Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Neil Young, Nick Drake or James Taylor got famous then. And innovative bands like Pink Floyd. |

 | Have to disagree with that, I think hearts & bones is his best album esp where lyrics are concerned. If you look at any comments paul
has about his music there is more about songs on this album than any other. he actually seems to dislike many of the songs on Paul Simon. IMO hearts & bones should be rereleased as it got lost in the after math of the 1980 reunion of S&G. I´m amazed how few knopw of this album. |

 | Hard to pick a favourite Simon album. How about compiling a "perfect Paul Simon album"...limit it to 10 tracks and see what you come up with. It will not be an easy task!Would be interesting to see the various choices.(I bet Nobody can do it over ONE cup of coffee!!) |

 | I´ll have to agree with that! Hears & Bones is probably my favorite PS album. It would be interesting to hear how it would´ve turned out if Art´s vocals were not wiped off. It´s probably for the better though, since it was such a personal solo album. |

 | I prefer ´Rythym of the saints´, but ´Paul Simon´ is certainly my second favorite. I make all my friends listen to it. After hearing it they all ask to borrow it, or they go out and get it themselves. I read a ´rolling stone´ article a view years ago where they had it as one of their top picks. |

 | I know that Hearts And Bones and Train In The Distance are quite personal songs but what is so personal about Rene & Georgette, Late Great Johnny Ace, Song About The Moon or even Numbers Get Serious and Cars Are Cars? I always thought that The Boxer or Homeward Bound are much more personal songs than most of the Hearts & Bones album..
I must say that both albums are great but I´d say Paul Simon is better - but that´s only my opinion at the moment, it can change (and probably will change). |

 | In Hearts&Bones, there´s the two "Think Too Much" songs about his anxiety problems and fears about his crumbling marraige. "Allergies" deals with his hand injury. "The Late Great Johnny Ace" chronicles his admiration of three Johns he admires: Johnny Ace, JFK and John Lennon. "When Numbers Get Serious" may possibly deal with a branch of philosphy dealing with numbers. "Rene & Georgette" isn´t that personal but gives mention to some of the groups he admires. Some peole say that "Song About The Moon" is about his writing process, but I don´t get it honestly. |

 | I think Hearts And Bones is one of his best albums as well. Hearts and Bones and Think too much b are two of my favorite songs, however as an album as a whole "Paul Simon" is a masterpiece where I feel songs like "Cars", "Numbers" and "Johnny Ace" take aways from a perfect album on H and B.
My perfect Paul Simon album (w/o popular/greatest hits type songs)
1. Pigs Sheep and Wolves
2. Duncan
3. Mardi Gras
4. Gone at Last
5. Some Folks Lives
6. St. Judy´s Comet
7. Sunny Day
8. Cool Cool River
9. Run That Body Down
10.Senorita w/ a neclace of tears
These aren´t necessarily all of my favorites, but just songs that exemplify what makes his albums so great. |
