just a thanks to Bodo or whoever was responsible for the live version of Cloudy being in the Excessive Fans section - this version is far better than the original - Cloudy has such a wonderful melody that was, in my opinion, virtually ruined in the original - the original was just too ´sweet´ for my liking (maybe far too much Gsrfunkel influence in the arrangement) and it so frustrated me for years to hear the song done that way and loose its true greatness - at least in the live version Paul didn´t need to pander to Garfunkel and was able to sing the song the way he most probably wanted to, with excellent guitar work + some percussion which gave the song bounce and vitality and such a joy to listen to - again thanks for finally allowing me to hear the song as it should have been done (it´s a pity they didn´t add this version to the 2001 remastered version of the original album or do this version on their recent world tour)

I feel that the same thing Cav said about Cloudy applies to "Poem Written on the Underground Wall". The demo version featured with the Bonus Tracks of Parseley Sage... is a much version than the studio arrangement version.

Cav, if you heard "Cloudy" in the early days, how did you know what it should have sounded like with nothing to compare it to?

i had nothing to compare it to as the original is the only version of the song i´ve heard until the excessive fan version - but i´ve always thought that the melody dictated that the song should be sung with a more upbeat arrangement which was not the case with the original and as such the original suffered - i think the same with hazy shade of winter, the new s & g tour version that i´ve heard has a more impact arrangement (with a few tweaks here and there) than the original, the starting guitar riff in the new version has more impact having been played on an electric guitar as opposed to an acoustic (as seemed to be in the original) -in my opinion, it´s as a good a riff as on Satisfaction (Rolling Stones), but lacked its due comparison with that song because of a wrong guitar choice - again the tour version may be a more Paul-inspired version than the original, but i´m only surmising on this
