 | Allez, après, je ne vous embête plus avec les vieilleries. Mais celle-là je l´aime bien, pas tant musicalement qu´au niveau du texte.
Je ne vous apprends rien en vous disant que c´est une chanson inspirée d´un poème de Edwin Arlington Robinson, intitulé lui aussi "Richard Cory", qui commence par (je cite de mémoire, soyez indulgent):
"Whenever Richard Cory went downtown,
We people on the pavement looked at him..."
et ça finit par:
"And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head...", vers que Paul a repris presque intégralement: "...Richard Cory went home last night, and put a bullet through his head..."
Bref, c´est une très belle chanson qui démarre dans la lutte des classes et se termine en interrogation sur le sens de la vie. Voici la trado que je propose:
On dit que Richard Cory possède la moitié de cette ville,
Avec les relations politiques qui lui permettent d´étendre un peu plus sa fortune.
Né dans la bonne société, fils unique d´un banquier,
Il avait tout ce qu´un homme aurait pu vouloir:
Le pouvoir, le charisme, le style...
Mais moi, je travaille dans son usine.
Et je maudis la vie que je mène
Je maudis ma pauvreté
Et si j´avais un seul souhait, ce serait celui-ci:
Etre Richard Cory.
Les journaux publient sa photo partout où il apparaît:
Richard Cory à l´opéra, Richard Cory à une exposition...
Et les rumeurs sur ses soirées, et les orgies sur son yacht...
Ah, il doit sûrement être heureux avec tout ce qu´il possède!
Mais moi, je travaille dans son usine,etc...
Il faisait spontanément des dons aux oeuvres, il était à l´aise avec les plus humbles
Et tous lui en étaient reconnaissants et tout le monde l´aimait beaucoup.
C´est pourquoi je suis resté abasourdi lorsque les journaux du soir ont titré:
"Richard Cory est rentré chez lui la nuit dernière, et il s´est tiré une balle dans la tête."
Mais moi, je travaille dans son usine, etc... |

 | J´aime Edwin Arlington Robinson, mais ses poemes sont (difficult) comprender (et je ne parle francais beaucoup du tout!). Richard Cory est un bon poeme de Robinson. |

| My apologies to everyone here. I was just going through the threads on both forums at the same time and I started one on the wrong side of the channel/ocean... But Nathgertsch suggests that we leave it here so all of you English speaking people can practice some French.
Although many actually do, judging by your nice answers!

| I didn´t say I didn´t want to erase those comments *because* I want people to practise French (they do what they want :-)) but *because* 2 English spoken members have made the effort to write in French to answer Balsa´s message and so, I thought it would not have been correct to take the messages off. |

 | If it is allowed to mix French and English here, maybe it is also possible to add some German. I do it for Bodo and his great site (don`t know many other sites, but can`t think of any details made better). It is from a german comedian called "Otto".

| For Klausi : du hast recht, es muss kein richtige(r)Deutschesprache sein! In meiner Schule (vor 36 Jarhre)niemals habe ich so Wörter gelernt! lol.Aber gespannt auf einer Erklärung bin ich doch! Kannst du das für mich ?(Deutscher Forum)Vielleicht gibt es keine(r) Erklärung, oder ?

Wo is er nü means: Where is he now?
So you see, that english speaking people have the greatest acceptance in the world. I think that is ok (at least the language). |

| Sting`s nice "Englishman in New York" and Paul Simons "A Simple Desultory Philippic" show us, how strange it is to be in another country.
But even more difficult, if there is a totally different language, as in France.
Once an Englishman and his wife wanted to go to Toulouse by train, couldn`t speak French. At the railway station they ordered two tickets: "Two to Toulouse!"
The guy, not English-speaking, was also not in a good mood and replied: "Ba ba ba ba!" |
