 | It is a Gospel programme that Paul did in the early 90´s (I believe that´s the right time). I can´t remember who the other singers are, what I do remeber is that it was rather cheesey and I felt, all the way through, that Paul felt totally out of place, he seemed a little awkward for the most part and a little embarassed...lol

 | The TV Show was in 1987 and it was released as video in 1991. Paul was the host and performed a few songs.
I think Paul enjoyed himself, he really likes Gospel music, but he looked strange with his tie...;-) |

 | It was in 1987, the crowd in the (new) curch was mostly black and was very excited about all (mostly black) performers. About 50 minutes running.
Paul Simon says some friendly but not very surprising things about gospel music, which he heard on the radio in the fifties on sundays, when rock`n roll was not aired. The songs are gospel-standards.
His one and a half really gospel songs "Gone at last" (not a great version in my eyes) and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (in Aretha-Franklin-style) are done in collaboration.
The highlight for Simon-fans is "SLip sliding away" only with his 12-string guitar and with the Oak Ridge Boys, who recorded it with him 11 years ago. One of the guys has really a very long beard, and Simon says: "It is hard to believe, that so much time went by, but I do remember on the day we recorded it William Lee (his name) had a "five-o`clock-shadow". Means he had not shaved. |

 | Correction: if it were 11 years it must have been in 1988. |

 | There has been a DVD released no, named "Jubilee of Gospel" but it is very hard to find (fnac has it ;-) )
The only problem is that nowhere the setlist is mentioned, and I think that not all of Paul Simon songs have been included (Maybe only Bridge and SSA) So I didn´t order it.
Here are the covers. They are hard to read, but I think on the first cover (the DVD) some songs are missing. :-(

 | I could name all what`s on the video (it was on german television too), but this would not help to say, whether the DVD is complete. Thanks to Bodo, I have ordered it and can tell soon.
"Gone at last" is the "Finale".
And "Slip slidin`away" the highlight. Curious, that in this show of happy songs (gospel is optimistic) Simon sang one of his few real sad and pessimistic songs. |

 | Hm, if "Gone at last" = "Finale" then I´ll order it too.
I thought I maybe have to wait for a complete version they will release later. |

 | I recorded the gospel show when it was aired in 1987.Slip slidin´ IS the highlight of it.It is collectable for Simon fans, but you would have to be really into the gospel stuff to like it all I feel.(It was shown around Christmas time in ´87.) |
