 | Well Bluesmoke, this is really not true, as the example of the Kurds shows.
The world 2000 years ago was - as during Hitler`s time - not a glorious time for the jews. That they were the ones who are responsible for Jesus Christ´s death is a legend, as the whole life of Jesus Christ.
I am not sure what this man was in historic truth. And I certainly don`t believe in any stories of miracle. The (only) son of god, who is responsible for the whole universe with billions of stars and earths, coming to this unimportant blue planet to save mankind, which exists since two million years, and die for us - sorry, not my story.
The European peoples before the time of the romans are - maybe with some exceptions - regularly not the ones who live there now.
After the west romans period,(Konstantin chosed Konstantinopolis, later Byzanz, now Instanbul as his residence, this was valid much longer), there were so many folks moving from the place they lived before, that one really cannot speak of any come back!
And - the Romans were Europeans too - I admire their culture. As the one of Athen. Many achievements of them were forgotten in the middle ages. Great disadvantage for the people and somehow a step backwards. | | | ivalo Mar-31-2005, 18:10 GMT

 | Just a note.
The ´occupation´ word was perhaps too strong. I think Jews really deserve their land where it is now BUT so do Palestinians. It´s weird that the partition of land by United Nations in 1947 didn´t lead anywhere and still after 57 years there´s no independent Palestinian country. And it´s craziness because in my opinion Israel has the key to solve the dilemma. It seems that Israel doesn´t even want peace! And peace would be for their advantage too... Maybe they haven´t realized that.
Neighbourhood Bully is a song that I don´t appreciate very much - I find Masters Of War much better. ;)
The fact that I admire Albert Einstein, Woody Allen, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Franz Kafka etc. etc. doesn´t mean that I agree with everything they have said or thought.
And I really liked your interpretation GandJ, I enjoyed reading it. | | | Lekornee Apr-02-2005, 02:32 GMT

 | I think a lot of Jewish people are actually against the state of Israel; at least, they were when it was first formed, because many Hasidic Jews believed they didn´t need a "homeland" to maintain their religion (as in Chaim Potok´s The Chosen). I also think politics over the state of Israel now are pretty far removed from anti-Semitism and it´s a bit harsh to label anyone who disagrees with its policies an anti-Semite. It is also one thing to dislike a religious philosophy and another to dislike the people who practice it. For instance, I don´t care for Christianity at all (or Judaism, really, but since I was raised Jewish I still feel connected to it) yet even though I might go so far as to call myself anti-religious I would never dislike a person simply because he or she follows Christianity.
And I do believe someone could be anti-Semitic and still like all of these Jewish entertainers, because most of them aren´t advocates for their religion and their work is separate from it. I know this is something completely off-topic but I do believe it´s possible, just as it would be possibly to like a celebrity but dislike his or her political platform.
GrandJ, thanks for your interpretation - it makes sense. Glad to know I wasn´t too far off. :-) | | | GandJ Apr-03-2005, 14:44 GMT

 | Hi Ivalo and Lekornee,
We are glad that you like our interpretation. We had been thinking about "The Teacher" since we had first listened to the song and after we read this thread we spent one evening reflecting and thinking and then we thought we share our ideas with others.Lekornee,it is great that you came up with this thread.
We have also read "The Chosen" and we liked it very much.
See,we are interested in Judaism and we are interested in Israel, that`s just how it is.We have met many Anti-Semites in the past, especially some far relatives of us who were real Jew-haters.That explains why we are very sensitive when it comes to Anti-Semitism.We were just annoyed by Scaaty`s comment because it was so unnecessary and disrespectful towards Paul`s emotions.Okay, and please don`t get us wrong:We think that every individual should be given the right to move to the place that is home to him or her. That is why we can fully identify with the Zionist movement butwe also think the Dalai Lama should not be denied the right to return to Tibet and so on,and so on.It is after all one world.
Best wishes to everyone, especially to Bluesmoke. It felt good to read your post. | | | |
