 | Which verse/chorus are you referring to? There´s the deep brass, halfway through the repeated chorus at the end, and if my memory serves me well (spot the quote!), there´s a bass clarinet in one of the verses. Could that be it?
BTW, when checking the web about this, I found an interesting PS site, which I´ll mention separately. |

 | I thought it was a base clarinet but online I found mention of a Theremin, which i know the really high pitched solo in the middle is, but i´m not sure if the theremin is also the really low part as well. |

 | It says on the Theremin World web site that it´s not a Theremin in The Boxer. I´ve always understood the solo to be a pedal steel and piccalo trumpet playing together. It doesn´t sound like a Theremin, because the notes are too distinct - a Theremin is a portamenteau instrument (as in Good Vibrations - Brian Wilson still uses one in live performances).
The Theramin can´t do the low parts. A Moog synthesiser could (as in Save The Life Of My Child and Space Oddity), but it´s not on this track. |
