I watched this DVD last night with Carrie Fisher doing a voice over. She said that she wrote the script and was on the set while trying to seperate a 2nd time from her husband Paul. She actually recommended this as a successfull way to finish a relationship (The woman has got no culture!!) This film was released in 1990. I had thought Paul was with Edie by this time and well finished with Carrie. Carrie also mentions that the producer Mike, his wife, Paul and herself had dinner during this time and Mikes wife suggested that a scene with the character (Suzanne ie Carrie) and her ex husband should be included. but it wasn´t. Interestering as to who they would have cast as the Paul character

Cariie wanted to make a movie with her second book "Surrender The Pink" too (and that book is clearly about her story with Paul) and according to an article I could read but I don´t know if it´s really true)had thought of Edie himself to play Paul´s character but he refused and Nobody finally didn´t release the movie :-).

Scaaty, Paul met Edie in december 1990, on the SNL set...
"Poscard from the edge", the novel and the movie, are not about Carrie´s relationships with Paul...the novel is very autobiographical but it is about her drug addiction and her life as an actress in Hollywood...it is really funny, i like this book very much...the movie is different, not the same story, more about the actress and her mother relationships...i saw it when it was released, i was very disappointed...
As said Nath, "Surrender the pink", is really about Paul and Carrie...the male character, Rudy, IS clearly and openly Paul...it is funny and very "interesting" for Paul´s fans who like gossips...and i like gossips, eh eh eh...:-)
PS: Nath, i don´t think that Edie could have been able to play Paul...maybe Eddie...:-)

Carrie explains about the change of emphasis in the film on the DVD. what she said was she was escaping from paul by being in hollywood writing the fscreenplay. I must get her other book if its about Paul I ahd always thought it was about the father of her child who turned out to be gay. Oh no not the gay thing again

According to Carrie, in some interview I read yonks ago, the character of Rudy was based not just on Paul, but all the strong men in her life.

I´ve read the book myself, and given what a numpty Rudy could be, I would hope that there were certain ´numpty´ aspect of him that were not Paul.

Rudy is jewish, new-yorker, he is a playwriht (you see, the artistic link!), he supports the Yankees, he has a house in the Hamptons, he talks very slowy, he was in his forties when he met the female character who was in her twenties, they were married just one year...
And this is only the details which come in my mind now...very obvious...
BTW Micky, what "numpty" means? don´t find this word in my dictionnary...
