I agree with Bodo, certainly on the OFT Pauls voice was great. Previously I thought he was beginning to "speak" rather than sing his songs esp on YTO

I didn´t say Paul´s voice was worse - I just said it was different! I don´t think you can disagree that there´s a difference in the timbre of their voices between then and now, but that´s not to criticise them - just an observation. I agree with Scaaty - I thought all this speaking business of Paul´s on YTO was because his voice was going. But being Paul, it´s just because that´s the way he wants to handle the songs. I thought their singing on tour was great!!

I don´t agree that Paul´s voice has improved since YTO, though I do see, that some of the songs on the album could be an indication of a vanishing voice. However, the Paris YTO DVD proves it all wrong. He sings all the Old songs very nice on that...

You know, for me this is just not so relevant. I know a lot of singers, though not professional ones, I´m a singer myself, and I don´t know anyone who has managed to keep their voice in good shape after 50 (some people start losing it earlier...). If they have been careful with it during their youth, they may keep it acceptable, otherwise forget it. I know people who used to have beautiful voices when they were young and now just can´t sing!
So, for me it´s very normal to listen to Paul and Art with aging voices. I agree that Art has lost more, but he also had more to lose. He was a wonderful singer, a natural one, with a fantastic technique. As for Paul, I always "feel" more effort when he sings, regardless of when, though I think he´s always had a beautiful and very good voice. He has one one of the most beautiful falsettos I´ve ever heard, and he uses it very cleverly. But losing one´s voice is part of life, it´s part of growing Old. And I think Paul has probably been more careful with his voice than Art. But what the hell, I really care about the songs, not anything else. Have you ever noticed how in recent concerts he plays most songs one or two tones lower? That´s clever, I would do that myself, it´s a good way of sparing your voice and not sounding ridiculous...

I think Garfunkel should also have stopped smoking (as Paul did 25 years ago), that would have been very good for his voice. (Except he wants to sing like Leonhard Cohen...but thats a long travel for him ;-) )
