OK, so what do we think now we´ve got it?
For me, the shows on the DVD are a lot better than the one in Hyde Park. There´s a lot more energy and fun in these performances, presumably because this was the start of the tour rather than towards the end. But I have to say that the audience are a lot more enthusiastic than we were!! These performances are so powerful, so fresh. And it´s the small things that can make such a difference. Paul fluffs a line in Baby Driver - so he´s human!! (And I was so happy when he forgot the running order at Hammersmith when he played there last!). And I must have got a speck of dust in my eye after Art´s introduction to Kathy´s Song - at least, I had to wipe away a couple of tears. The whole band were tight and fresh, and there´s a real joy about the whole thing. I was also able to appreciate how staggeringly good Art´s voice was and is, how he still hits that top A flat in BOTW with power and accuracy.
I Love the bonus concert material. But who is that guy who looks like Paul? Is it Eddie?
´Citizen of the Planet´ is growing on me, so thanks for including it.
The liner notes are OK, but I was irritated by all the ´clever´ song references.
For £15.99 this is fantastic value, and if you haven´t bought it, get it!!

I will have mine tomorrow :-).
Yes, the man looking like Paul is Eddie.
£ 15.99 ? Quite expensive (less than 18 ? here in France) !

It was 15.99 in HMV but only 11.99 in Musiczone.

John...I think the shows only look better because of editing. I was at MSG, Manchester and Hyde Park. The Hyde Park concert was the best although the audience at Manchester was a lot better (ofcourse that´s to be expected of a mancunian audience ....not that I´m biased in anyyway!!)

Art didn´t actually hit that high note....just before the last verse there´s a key change so he didn´t have to sing so high !Incidntally after he had sung that last note at Hyde Park I thought he looked as if he could do with a lie down to recover.

Hi Julie! Although I´m your Number One fan, I have to disagree about Art´s top note. At Hyde Park, and on the DVD, it starts in D, a semi-tone below the record´s E flat (stop me when I´m boring you). And I thought at the time that poor Old Art can´t get that note any more... Then between the second and third verses it shifts up to E flat. Now with all these pitch-shifters around, it could be that the whole thing was shifted down a bit. So I played along with the DVD on my pitch-perfect keyboard, and it really is in E flat. And Art really does hit A flat! OK, he doesn´t sustain the following G for the same length of time, but I´m not going to complain!
Moral: Don´t argue with a musician, because they´ll bore you into submission!

There is a videoclip of Mrs. Robinson on paulsimon.com, the quality is good.

I wouldn´t compare the DVD with the real live concert.

Nothing is easier than changin the sound in pre-production.

And the general positon of all fans, journalists and music critics is/was always that Art has lost a lot of his voice, and Paul also (but less than smoking Garfunkel)

I don´t know if it´s an E A or G, but I know it lost a lot since their last tour

I´ll admit I don´t really know what I´m talking about but that´s never stopped me so far....Are you saying that they started lower than on the record and then between the second and third verse they shifted back UP. I tought they shifted DOWN !!

Oh, I know you can do anything and everything with computers these days. But when I was at the concert, the video screen clearly showed the piano played first in D then in E flat. So if at the concert it was actually sounding lower than it was being played, then for the DVD it must have been electronically upped back to concert pitch, which strikes me as an enormous waste of time and energy, and pretty pointless, as no-one would know except a few of us with nothing better to do. And as it was a real piano being played (as opposed to a Yamaha synth which looks like a grand piano), then either the piano was detuned , which is extremely unlikely as it was used for the rest of the concert, or it was electronically flattened as it was being played...
I still say Art sang the final verse in E flat, and hit the top A flat.
Is there anyone here with perfect pitch who went to a concert and can tell us one way or the other?
Or shall I shut up and get back to work?

But what would be the point of changing the key upwards ? It stands out like a sore thumb.

Exactly! That´s why there is a change up of a semi-tone between verses 2 and 3. It´s for Dramatic Effect! It´s what we muso´s do to wake people up and give ourselves nightmares, especially if we haven´t prepared for it! So on the DVD verses 1 and 2 of BOTW are in D, and verse 3 is in E flat. The record is in E flat for all 3 verses. And Paul in concert plays it all in D.

Pretty good, I´d say. It comes to about £14.30, which is better than the £15.99 I paid at HMV! But of course I didn´t have to wait for mine to come through the post...!!

I´ve just seen the dvd and am now listening to it again but without the 5.1 sound. It sounds really good! I had tears down my face during Kathy´s Song, Slip Sliding Away and Only living boy in NY.
The scene where Paul forgets the words is just amazing and it was great that it showed the non-perfect side of him.

I´ve seen the DVD twice now. It´s a great DVD after all. A great show, a good picture and sound quality. Unfortunately, subtitles are missing, but beside that it´s a great DVD with great bonus material IMO.

But I still have a few questions in my head...(don´t take them to serious):

1. Why was Artie not able to wear the same clothes on all the shows that were recorded ?

2. Why are the mics on the cover-picture at the same hight ?

3. Why does the last verse on SOS sound so much better than the first one ?

4. The way Artie speeks before Kathys Song is very touching. But I´m still not sure whether I should think: "my god, so cute" or "looks staged for the dvd, he spoke with much less emotions at the shows I visited". hmmm...

5. What does the girl (who screemed "i Love you" at the very beginning of the show and got a reaction from Artie) think after she realised that this is on the dvd ?

:o)
