whay are there pics of troops inIraq on the homepage? this is a music site about Paul Simon, can we not turn it into a political site like nearly every other site i go on nowadays? i know the war on Iraq is awful and unjust, but this is a music site for goodness sakes

I don´t think neither it´s the right place for such pics but I think Bodo will give an explanation soon.
Now, please, no more comments like yours Klausi or it´s an open door for a bad debate and it´s not the place neither for those kinds of talks and arguments.

If Bodo allows me to say that : he said he won´t participate to this thread but I asked him to explain why those pics and that´s what he did, putting a legend.
Now, as Nick said, it´s his site and he can do what he wants and we can think what we want to but please, let´s avoid those so useless and common talks about whose country is the worst in that war and who has started first. The problem is not there and it´s much more complicated unfortunately.

Regardless of political opinion or circumstances in any individual instances (right or wrong), we would not even have a country to defend if it were not for our troops.

I think Paul supported Kerry to prevent incidents like this happening. So may be the photos are relevent to this site. Troops of youngsters away from home save Nobody from anything, least of all themselves.

Paul Simon hated Nixon, supported the democratics and said 1980 to Melody Maker, asked what he would fear about the extreme positions of Reagan (after a not so glorious period with Carter, regardless of his good will). "I hope Ronald Reagan gets it right, I was definitely against Nixon".

Contrary to Dylan and others, he is very, very careful with political statements, being accused himself for Graceland, produced in South Africa of Apartheid. So he had to play in Zimbabwe 1987, where Mr. Mugabe now is responsible for hundred thousands of dying people.

So, it is all really very complicated, and a site like this should be careful like Mr. Simon is, and not judge with short and simple answers.

I don´t like these pictures either. As much as I am opposed to this war and the killing of innocent people, I don´t like having those pictures everywhere I go. It´s haunting, and well, not something I care to be looking at while reading posts, looking at pictures, etc...

But I respect that this is Bodo´s forum and he has the right to do what he wants. I´m very thankful for this site, so I should probably just shut up now lol

Maybe Bodo wants to test our reactions ?
stupid : ooh, they´re lucky, they have a great sunshine there !
theoric : why should we ask soldiers to be more intelligent than their own president ?
religeous : did anyone told them (muslim, chrtistians, jews) that they were praying the same god, and would logically have to keep on fighting again up there ?
marley : have no fear for atomic energy cause none of them can stop the time
scared : please protect my credit card, my car and my house from my starving enemies !
tired : 2000 years ago, a man said very wise things, look like you didn´t hear any of them Mr WB
yes, indeed we are all shocked by these pictures Bodo, when a man, whoever, kills another man, the world loses a part of humanity.

More innocent people have been killed in the past year (100,000 at the last count) than during the whole of Saddam´s regime, and let´s not forget the West was perfectly happy to turn a blind eye to Saddam´s excesses when it suited them, just as they seem oblivious to the genocide in Sudan. Reproducing this photograph is entirely defensible, drawing attention as it does to the crimes against humanity being committed by the Americans every day in Iraq. Paul has a long record of support for humanitarian causes and is known to have opposed the Iraq invasion and occupation, so the photos use here seems entirely appropriate.

I am an American...I,like Paul, supported and voted for John Kerry...I am a Democrat like Paul...I do not agree with this war....I see pictures of the war in Iraq every day...in the newspaper, on TV, in political magazines, on the internet.. some of my students at the college are being sent there, have been there....The whole situation sickens me....all the death and destruction...and the reasons for going and the outcome are so in question....Although I am against the war, I support our troops who are there... war is ugly....all sides of it...one snippet on this site cannot show the total picture of what is happening there... Is the war in Iraq being brought to this Paul Simon fan website to raise our human consciousness?....I think we have always had a consciousness of right or wrong in this country...can we so easily forget WWI and WW II?...the world may be a much different place had we turned a deaf ear to Europe....Don´t be so quick to judgment...America was changed with 9/11....Don´t be so quick to judge unless you have walked in that man´s shoes.....
