 | I just want to inform you all that I officially fell in Love with the song "Duncan".
I didn´t know this song for a long time (on which studio album is it, by the way ?) and I discovered it because I really like the live-rhyming-album.
It is such a nice song. The melody is quite easy but very sweet. I also like the fact that it is so easy to play on the guitar.
And the lyrics are very very nice !
A nice sweet story with a lot of sex in it. (In fact, if Paul wouldn´t mention his guitar on the last verse, then that would be the third time that the lyrics are about sex :o) )
What do you think about that song/lyrics ?
and my final question:
Did Lincoln Duncan really exist, or was this character just made up ?

 | It´s on Paul Simon (the album).
And the "just thankin´ the Lord for my fingers" IS sexual, regardless of the guitar. ;-) It´s gotta be. |

 | It is my favorite Paul Simon solo song, believe it or not. I find it to be in the same fashion as The Boxer. So what do you think the significance is about the christian girl sleeping with Duncan? Does anyone see the deeper symbolism? |

 | No, I always just thought it was a folk song. He makes a lot of references to Christianity in his other songs too. |

 | Thanks for the tip, Alain.
Wasn´t there kind of "magic links" where you can hear the different demo files online ?
If yes, can someone please post the link to the Duncan-demo ? I have no money for the box set :o( |

 | Yes, I Love this song as well. It´s probably one of my favorite songs of his (solo).
It took me a couple of listens to actually understand what it was about though lol :P |

 | Ah, Duncan... a great song.
I very much think that it´s just about sex and Paul having fun, gently mocking religion...
Definitely no religious symbolism, for me anyway |

 | With ?Duncan? Paul wanted to show how he had originally intended ´The Boxer´ to be, as a more simple song.
Nice detail: in the live version on Live Rhymin? it?s the girl that comes to his tent?
