 | I know this is a really pathetically pedantic question, but us fans get like this...
Anyway, before going to the S&G concert in Hyde Park, I read all the US concert reviews and realised that they were pretty much sticking to a script (which brought to mind the PS mid-70´s TV special!).
At the end of the Hyde Park concert, when Paul introduced Leaves That Are Green, he said: ´This is an early song.´ Then he smiled to himself and added:´In fact, they´re all early songs!´
Now, my pathetically pedantic question is: Did he say this at any other concert? Because it seemed that he said the first bit, then realised what he´d said, and added the second bit. But maybe this was rehearsed too...! |

 | IIRC, he said it in Munich, too.
Too lazy to dig out my recording now ;-) |

 | I attended two of their concerts over the last year, one in Denver and one in St. Louis, and the comment wasn´t made at either. I Witnessed a difference in what was said at the two concerts I went to. Some remarks were scripted, but they seemed to improvise quite a bit.
At one point, durring the concert I was at in Denver, someone in the crowd shouted out ´I Love you Paul´, Art then said ´I love you Paul? Why am I even here?´ At which point Paul asked everyone in the audience to shout out ´We love you Artie!´ I was more then happy to comply. The comment, which I found humorous, was not made at the concert I attended in St. Louis. |

 | at the Dublin concert someone kept shouting out at Art when he was talking and he said "no come on, were a duo, not a trio" and the crowd just went mad and gave him loads of applause and cheers |

 | I think on all concerts Art said "thank you" in the language weher the concerts was. In Koln it was "danke". At the Amsterdam concert, a day after the Koln concert, he should have said "dankjewel" (the dutch word for "thank you"). But Art made a mistake and said "danke". Everyone saw that he expected a big applause, but then he realized he didn´t said it well and Paul began to play. After two songs, I think someone whispered it in his ears again, he said the good word: "dankjewel", and the big applaus came. |

 | Isn´t it easy to entertain a concert audience? ;-)
Yeah, they know all the Old songs, so why shout they applaude...better say one word in their language an all people are thrilled :-D |

 | Paul also said the "they are all pretty Old songs"-remark in Copoenhagen, and many other places too, I think. |

 | I remember exactly the scene in Munich when Art told that he considers "Kathy´s Song" as Pauls most beautiful lovesong. He said "most beautiful lovesong" in german ("schönstes Liebeslied") and then he looked at the audience, really expecting the reaction.
I have deep respect for Art (oh yes I do) but this scene was just gay !
I don´t like this kind of games between the artist and and the audience...even worse is when the artist sings a silly melody in "Aaaaaah" and then wants the audience to repeat this stuff. You know what I mean ?
If they want to get in touch with the audience they should tell stories that are honest or at least funny. But these well rehearsed little games that they (can) do on every show... I can´t stand them. |

 | Paul said the same comment about Leaves That Are Green at The Hollywood Bowl here in California as well. I guess some of it was scripted. Oh well, I was happy just to see them! |

 | Oh well... Thanks everyone! I don´t expect Paul to be like Elton John or Paul McCartney when it comes to interacting with a crowd, but my honest feeling about the Hyde Park concert was that it was going through the motions a bit.
When I saw Paul in London a few years ago someone yelled out ´Art Garfunkel!´, and Paul replied ´Sorry, I don´t understand your accent!´ which I thought was pretty good, and got a huge cheer. I don´t expect hours of stand-up comedy, but I do sometimes sympathise with the man on the Live Rhymin´ record!
Oh yes - I presume when they finally left the stage Paul said ´See you when we´re 80´? |

 | In a similar vein, in Boston they came back for what seemed to be an improptu 3rd encore of Mrs Robinson after the lights came on and were starting to leave. However this didnt happen at Hyde Park. Did this happen elsewhere or was the crowd just gr8 in Boston or somethin? |

 | As I read this thread I think these one liners from Paul are remembered much better than all the talking from other artists like McCartney, Elton John and Art garfunkel ;-) |

 | And after all, it is hard to find a new story or a new joke about the same songs every evening... |
