 | I figure this....with every good there must (?) be a bad right?
All people are different, so I think it would be interseting to find out the songs that you think Paul was a little week in, or perhaps just down right dislike.
As for myself, I really had to sit down and think about this one, I came up with this:
There is no Paul Simon song that I hate or dislike, but I will say that in my opinion, one of his weakest songs was Papa Hobo. It is okay, but I never really got into that one. Another one for me would be Congratulations.
What do you think? |

 | I Love Papa Hobo so much! Especially the last line, "I´m in the road and the weatherman lied."
His weakest song? I dunno... There´s so many great ones. With the exception of "Hey Schoolgirl," I would have to say some of those Rhythm Of The Saints songs or a couple from Songs From The Capeman. A few of those are long, boring, and monotonous. |

 | there are one or two on OTP that I find kind of boring. And also on TROTS there are a couple of tunes that hasn´t grabbed me at all. |

 | ROTS is a great album for me, except the title song. I really don´t understand why Paul chose to name the album ROTS. The other 9 songs are great, I think. He could have named the Born At The Right Time, for example. |

 | I really like Papa Hobo and Congratulations. I don´t dislike any song really, but That´s Why God Made The Movies (OTP) always seemed kind of week to me. I agree there are a couple on Songs From The Capeman that are a little weak but a great album never the less. |

 | There are some I just don´t like to listen to, especially off of There Goes Rhymin´ Simon, but I don´t remember them right now.
Also I don´t like Late Great Johnny Ace or Rene and Georgette Magritte... I just can´t get into them. |

 | The album is called Rhythm Of The Saints because this has a special meaning.
SongTalk: why have you chosen The Rhythm of the Saints as the title for your new album ?
Paul Simon: This album is about drums, about drumming. It´s about West African drumming. And the West African religion of the Yuruba people was exported with the African Diaspora into the New World because of slavery. So that culture and those religions, the West African deities, were syncretized with Catholicism so that West African deities would have a corresponding Catholic saint. So that when the slave-master came in and said, "I told you guys not to be playing drums," because the drum was forbidden, especially the holy drum, the bata, they would say, "This is not about Chango, this is about ... Santa Barbara." So it became an afro-Catholic religion.
The inspiration for the album comes from the West African drumming as it is expressed through Brazilian pallms. So I called the album The Rhythm of the Saints.
-
Born At The Right Time or Proof or The Obvious Child would be the typical choice for a commercial album where you don´t think a minute about the title because it only should sound ´cool and new´ or it´s one of the hit songs.

 | I´ll probably get eaten alive for saying this here but I´ve never liked Old Friends/Bookends. There´s some nice sentiment in the lyrics but I find the song to be drab with little melody. Although I´ve got to say that it being the first song on the S&G tour made it all the more exciting and euphoric for me when the bounding chords of Hazy shade of winter hit in |

 | Pezza, you will appreciate "Old Friends/Bookends with time.Plus, listen to the entire "Bookends" album in full. The concept deals with age and life and the unknown.Old Friends/Bookends is the most chilling Paul Simon song I have ever heard. Also watch the Central Park video of this song and you get an even more chilling feeling from it. |
