 | Has anyone seen this show? It was on VH1 sometime in June I think. I missed it and have been hoping for a repeat to show. It is suppose to have Paul and John Mayer playing each other´s songs. |

 | John Mayer has alot to learn before he should be on a stage with Paul. I loved being able to Paul sing his Old songs but when Mayer´s turn would come to sing a verse his ugly voice almost ruined the song. |

 | John is a great player/singer right now, and even talented too. |

 | I will admit that John Mayer is talented and it is extremist to call his voice ugly, but IMO his voice doesn´t belong in a Paul Simon song. What I should have said was that I would have much rather seen Paul by himself on a VH1 special and that John Mayer´s presence only hurt my enjoying the program. I respect those who feel otherwise but I don´t enjoy John Mayer´s sound. |

 | (I wrote a really long message yesterday, but it got lost, and I didn´t want to write everything again :- )
In short words. I think John Mayer was close to overtake all of Paul´s songs - he (Paul) could have been glad that he is such a legend.
Especially on songs like Boy in the bubble Mayer didn´t only enrich the song with his guitar playing and his deep cool voice, he gave much more feelings and emotions than Paul to it (One of the reasons could be that Paul is playing this song since 20 years now at EVERY concert - EVERY tour... maybe he should change some things before he get bored by itself)
Another part where Mayer was simply great while Paul didn´t know what to do (except playing around with his fingerpick) was when he suddenly transformed his song into "Train In The Distance". A Surprise for Paul... but he wasn´t cool enough to sing with Mayer or play guitar along his own song. :-(
It was a very good show, but without Mayer it would have only be a Paul with his guitar thing - and then he couldn´t have played songs like Boy in the Bubble or Late In The Evening. |

 | I think you undervalue Paul in this show.
John´s lead guitarplaying at The Boy In The Bubble was great of course, but his singing not imo. I had to listen a few times to hear what he was singing. The part they sang together was great.
He didn´t overtake Paul´s songs, they played and sang together and appreciated each other very much.
And Paul was amused when John transformed a few lines in his song into Train In The Distance, Paul did play along but wanted to use the plectrum and then decided not to.
It was a good show, it was not a matter of who was the best and of course Paul needs another guitarplayer at these songs, when he wanted to perform solo he would have picked other songs which are more appropiate for one guitar only. Paul Simon is a legend, he doesn´t have to proove himself anymore. |

 | I do agree with Ans. Whenever I watch the show I have the feeling that Paul is staying in the background to let the young titan show off his talent. |

 | I watched again ´Late In The Evening´ before reacting. I like John´version, he diggested the song and give back very persionnal feeling, I had never heard so much blues (I´m a fan of Blues) in this song. I appreciated this new emotion in a song I thought I knew... had never heard before this "ev´rything goes zoom-zomm" ! the solo part is also very delicate (I miss the right word)... and John is very mature in his interpretation. ugh, this is my opinion |

 | I was able to watch a bit of the show online, but not the whole thing. I really hope that VH1 replays this again so that I can gat a full view on what everyone is saying. I personally like John Mayer, so I think it could be really good....though I like Paul much better! |
