The electric piano is probably the thing that irritates me the most - I don´t like the sound at all - but it was also in Still Crazy After All These Years which is one of Paul´s most succesful albums (also in the view of critics). For example the album arrangment of I Do It For Your Love is horrible compared to the live versions I´ve heard.

I Love OTP, though if I was forced to select just 1 PS album it would be Hearts And Bones.
OTP has some great lines, for example ´The only time love is an easy game is when two other people are playing it.´ Classic PS on love! ´I shifted my heart for its safety´s sake´ - yes, been there. ´I fold in your arms and your voice is the heat of the night - I´m on fire.´ Wonderful description of intimacy.
The one thing that irritates me is not the electric piano, but Eric Gale´s guitar playing. It´s bitty, not melodic, and he has the volume up too high on the guitar, which is why you can hear every time he plucks a string. I really could have done better! But that doesn´t distract from the excellence of the songs!

For me One-trick Pony and Hearts And Bones (for just the opposite reason, it should be simpler and maybe faster - there he thought too much) are the albums Simon should record again (not all songs). Songs and lyrics are good.

Still crazy is neither to simple nor too complicated. The strings on "Still crazy" sound almost disharmonic compared to "God bless the absentee" - but they are a great introduction to one of the most beautiful sax-solos ever. Sax is on more songs there, not immediately pleasing (some take the next song by the solo of "Have A Good Time", the most cynical Simon-song).

But "Still crazy" shows much less variety than "There goes...". And it is darker.

Jefferson, I feel One Trick Pony" is the best "Night Driving" album you could listen to....try it when you are on one of those long night time country lane journeys home.

oh, Yeah, sorry Jefferson...happy wedding day....don´t forget to put a clause in the contract stating NO claim to half of your Simon collection if things go a bit "Hearts & Bones"!!!

yes, good wedding too !
OTP is probably my favorite one ! the melodies are so good and sophisticated, and his voice so sweet... I take it for a very personnal album, about his life, his feelings, it is definitely (for me) the closest from Paul universe : Jonah IS Paul !
and I agree : perfect for long drivings.

Hehe, yes this is an Old thread that was picked up again by Klausi, I think.
Anyway, did we come to the end of the line with these album discussions?
