Wow, what an incredible album. this album has some of my all time favorite Paul Simon songs. Still Crazy After All These Years is one of my all-time favorites. i Love how near the end of this song it turns into a generational song by saying that he wouldnt be convicted by a jury of his peers because they are still crazy after all these years, like him. i love that. it makes the song so much bigger and wonderful. I Do It For Your Love is a pretty love song and the lyrics are so personal and descriptive, it takes you there. 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover is a classic. geniusly written. Gone At Last is such a great gospel tune and it is fun to hear paul sing about hope and happiness while Some Folks Lives Role Easy would have gone better before Gone at Last (chronologically speaking), but it is such a soulful song that i have always loved it (not to mention the incredible chord progression). Have A Good Time is another happy song with a tinge of depression, makign it a song that is good to listen to wether you are happy or sad ... a hard thing to accomplish. You´re Kind is a song that i could walk around singing for days and it has a clever message, a great pop song. and last but not least, Silent Eyes it an inspirational and humbling spiritual tune that stands out from the album because it is so different from the rest of the album. some parts of this song are much more direct than paul usually writes, but others are incredibly symbolic and beautiful.

the only song that i left out is Night Game and that is because it is the only song on the album that i almost always skip over. ive read his description of what the song means and it interested me more, but i still cant get a real hold on it.

sorry that this is such a long review, but this great album calls for it.

DISCUSS! :^)

Well, this album is Genius from the get-go!
The title track should have played in the background of the scene in Annie Hall, when Woody meets Diane after all those years. What a powerful song that many of us can relate with. The lyrics are so deceptively simple, but deep.
50 Ways was the song that I (and probably many) played most often, but over the years, it is the one that I skip (maybe from hearing it too often).
Some Folks Lives is another masterstroke. "Here I am Lord, I´m knocking at your place of business, I know I ain´t got no business here". Talk about painting a lost soul. Wow!
I always thought "Have A Good Time" was depressing, as the narrator seems to be trying to convince himself that he´ll have a good time amidst all the adversity in his life. The key is, he is ´trying´ to convince himself.
Again, Silent Eyes is remarkable for its imagery and its message. One of Paul´s most powerful songs.

And Night Game has really grown on me over the years. As with most of Paul´s albums, the song I liked the least initially has grown to become one of my favorites.

A brilliant album from beginning to end, with not one tune worth less than an A.

Oh, I like Night Game !

It is a minor song in Simon´s repertoire, but it has this power to evoke a few things with power...but power that leads to sadness and nostalgia !

Sadness, the pitcher died...
Age, the stadium was Old
Fall or winter are at the door..."and the tarpaulin was rolled, upon the winter frost".

I just imagine the empty stadium on a very cold evening of October !

Still Crazy is definitely in my top ten maybe five of Paul Simons songs I Love the Sax piece in it. I believe he played this song at the New Orleans Jazz festival a few years ago, which would suggest even jazz buffs would relate to this song. Have A Good Time, My Little Town, and I´ll do it for you love are also great songs. You´re Kind is a nasty song IMO but I guess relationships can go like that so its an honest song.
BTW after TGRS and before this album there was a live album with gospel music Live Rhymin´ is this included in these discussions or studio albums only please?
