BILOXI - Paul Simon, the Grammy-winning singer/writer, toured storm
damage today and found ´opportunity in tragedy,´ as an organization
he co-founded brought the first of two mobile clinics to the Coast.

´There is a moment when we understand we are one,´ said Simon, who
met with Biloxi´s mayor, A.J. Holloway. ´It gradually goes away.´

Simon will appear on NBC´s Today show on Tuesday from Biloxi, he will
be among performers on a national telethon on Friday to raise money for
hurricane victims.

Simon and Dr. Irwin Redlener toured the devastated city and visited
Coastal Family Health Center, located in a poor area of Biloxi that was
extremely hard-hit. The pair co-founded a children´s health and
advocacy organization, The Children´s Health Fund.

The organization is bringing two 35-foot mobile clinics to the Coast to
help with recovery. The first arrived in Biloxi today. The organization
plans to move into New Orleans, when it´s possible, and plans to help
rebuild permanent health-care facilities in both storm-ravaged areas.

Paul Simon aiding Katrina victims

Thursday, September 08, 2005

Paul Simon is among the dozens of musicians pitching in to help aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Associated Press reported that Simon traveled to the Gulf Coast to announce the formation of ´Operation Assist,´ which will provide emergency medical care, food and clothing to Katrina´s victims in and around Biloxi, Mississippi. Two mobile medical clinics from the Mississippi Children´s Health Fund program in Clarksdale, as well as another from New York City, are already on-hand to help victims. Simon promised that the clinics aren´t just a temporary solution but that, quote, ´They are going to stay here for a long time,´

Simon, who is the co-founder of The Children´s Health Fund, which provides health care to medically underserved communities around the US, said that, ´I´m not down here as a songwriter, but as someone to call attention to it, particularly in the smallest communities´. Simon described damage to the coast as ´suffering, on a Biblical scale.´

He went on to say that he has relatives from New Orleans who ´lost everything´ and are now staying in a hotel in the town of Pearl, located in central Mississippi, because that´s as far as the gas in their car would take them.

Paul Simon, along with Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Brian Wilson and many more, will be performing on the ReAct Now: Music & Relief telethon, airing commercial-free from 8 to 11 p.m. ET this Saturday (September 10th) on MTV, VH1, CMT, VH1 Classic, and MTV2 in America.

Paul Simon at concert For Autism Speaks

Paul Simon among others took the stage Saturday night at the Kodak Theatre in L.A. to support Autism Cares.

Paul Simon, still rocking after all these years, getting people to dance in the aisles even at a venue where aisle-dancing is barely possible.

Backed by a seven-piece band, he executed a masterful nine song set.
Among them: Me and Julio, Graceland and the Boxer.

Simon remains in fine voice, making frequent use of his graceful hands as if conducting a symphony of his own.

Miriam Makeba farewell tour

from Bodo , 2005-09-27

Miriam Makeba (73) declared last night at a sold out concert in Johannesburgs Civic Theater the end of her official touring career - with a final tour of 14 months trough 52 countries worldwide. This tour will bring her also to the USA, Cuba, Venezuela, Brasilia and Germany (and from what I know, Austria too because she said that last year)
This is your last chance to see Mama Africa, who toured with Paul Simon for 2 years on his Graceland tour. It also would be nice if Paul would take the chance and join Miriam for a last duet at a special venue.
