| Rest in Peace Vincent, it was an honour to be present at the recent concerts where you gave us an insight into the spirituality of the music of Africa. |

| I just see the news: very sad...
For 26 years, Vincent was a familiar and an almost shy presence in Paul Simon's concerts.
From time to time, they shared a glance and a smile, i think there was a warm friendship between them. |

| So sad.
But what happened? Was he ill?
I cannot find anything in the news, not even on Paul's site or Facebook. He deserves some more attention. |

| I guess He did not wann have attention. Yes He was ill He said in a September Interview, but He sounded like He went on vacation because He "was" ill...
I wonder too why there is no little Statement from Paul. He condolenced to Fisher last year... So a Statement for his guitar Player since 25 years would be nice... He even tried to visit Rays funeral this spring. Nobody informed Simon? |

| There are several articles but all in French.
What I read Vincent suffered from diabetes for a long time. He was diagnosed with cancer, not sure when exactly. There is a necrology in the Cameroon Tribune where they mention he died in Brasil where he was on treatment for cancer.

A friend of him posted some nice (unknown photos for me) on Vincent's facebook page.
The music world will miss him. It must be hard for Paul and the other bandmembers.

| Is it not strange that Paul is not mentioning anything about Vincent on his website? He has been working with him for more then 25 years!
How old was Vincent exactly? |

| 2017 took away Phiri and N'guini.
Sad to see that he was desperate at the point of going to see that charlatan in Brazil. |

I want to respond to the messages who said Paul should react immediately to Vincent's passing. I think Paul has the right to grieve privately before he makes a statement.
He responded now on his Facebook, Instagram and Twitter page.
I wish him a lot of strength with the loss of a very good friend and great musician.

| In retrospect I think he played it well in waiting for the newspaper obits. It has given everyone who may not have had a lot of background on Vincent before a chance to pay their respects. |

| Totally agree Ans. Not everyone grieving a loss immediately posts on social media nor should we expect it. Especially maybe those of Paul's age. He had such a great friendship and rapport with Vincent. Must have been devastating for him. . |

| I agree about this and all spiritual healers being a dangerous fraud but presumably it was John of God in Abadiânia, Brazil which is the same one that Paul and Edie visited a few years ago. |

| I presume you are right, Gink. Paul's website mentions Vincent died in Abadiânia.

| He died too early compared to what one could expect as life duration today.
Besides very significant guitar playing on such delicate numbers as Slip slidin away, he sang with a nice bass voice such as on the Diamonds intro and others, whereas Mark Stewart delivered high harmonies.
Including himself Paul had four guitar players and I guess he knew very well when to let them play. His band was a multi-instrument-playing/singing orchestra.
But remember how many great musicians from Phoebe Snow, Michael Brecker, Richard Tee or Eric Gale left in their midlife. |
