Allen Toussaint had been expected to perform a benefit concert along with longtime friend Paul Simon in New Orleans on Dec. 8 at Le Petit Theatre to raise money for the organization, New Orleans Artists Against Hunger And Homelessness.

Very sad news. Allen was a tremendously gifted musician and songwriter and a very gracious man. He will be sorely missed.

Sad!

Considering that S&G performed with a band only in their last concerts, up to 1969 only as a duo with one guitar (making a lot of money that way), it is impressive to look at the list of musicians Paul worked with since the split. On record and stage. Probably one reason for him to force the breakup.

Garfunkel was invited by Paul for CP 1981 and felt they could do a significant part of the concert without a band. Not so Paul.

Stephane Grappelli, Toots Thielemans, Count Basie, Al Di Meola (called fastest guitarist in the world), David Sanborn, Michael Brecker, Quincy Jones outside the pop-field and and and.
