Most Paul Simon fans have long wondered what exactly was on the mix tape, "Accordion Jive Hits Vol. II," that inspired one of the greatest albums in history.

This blog has put together an idea of the types of songs and music that may have inspired Paul Simon to write and record the "Graceland" album. It´s a great listen and is available for download. Enjoy Everybody!

Thanks Mike - I have read that some weeks ago, but did not find the time to listen to the mp3 songs.

What I know(or have read) is: Only 128 copies from that cassette have been made.

People at this radio station say they have send Paul tapes with African music in the 1980's - but they did not mention the Gumboots tape.

I somehow believe that this tape did not really exist as a tape you could buy in a store, maybe it was just a hand-made cassette mix from different groups.

As they have that tape (somewhere in their office?), maybe someday it will be released? i don't think so...

Yeah, my hopes aren't too high Bodo, but I do agree that the tape was most likely a mix of various songs that a friend gave Paul at the time. The chance of ever knowing what was on there is pretty low.

On the plus side, Paul Simon has introduced me to a great deal of musical genres that I probably wouldn't have found on my own.
