Just coming back from Brussels : to answer to Jokaipai in Finland : there was no open act : Paul and the Band came on stage à 8.30 (and finishing at more that 11:00): no open-act, just in time to start the show. Set-list was the same as for London (may be, just a little change : he performed Gumboots before Graceland, as you said, Bodo). And Jimmy Cliff wasn't there. I try to write a global review tomorrow. Last night was a short night and I need to go to sleep and.... dream again!

hm, Erwin you really do not know the story about Myth of fingerprints? :-)

That was your mother hasn't been played on the original Graceland tour so I guess it was just that the band was not prepared for that one. They might not have many rehearsals before the tour.

I even questioned myself why for example Vincent also played guitar during the Graceland set - the original band also only had 2 guitar players. Could it be that they need him to back up Ray and John?

Thanks and i believe Myth of fingerprints has something to do with the fact that Paul has used something from another band in this song. Is that true? And if so i still don't see why he is not playing that one live. Perhaps you can help Bodo?

Well, it might be that Los Lobos bring up the whole story again if he plays it at a concert.

We will never knew exactly what and how much this band contributed - but the real fact is that Paul once said that they should bring it to the court and see what happens (they will loose) and Los Lobos never ever did that. So there is little proof they contributed a lot to that song. Anyway in the end you can argue now that Paul is not going to play the song because he thinks it is not his own - but as I said, I just think he does not want to give them any option for a new argument.

Did Steve Gadd ever say that 50 ways is his song, just because of the drums he has add - I don't think so. It is a normal business to hire session musicians and get some of their sounds as an input (as far as I understand it).

I personally think All around the world is a very good song, but compared to the other Graceland songs it is (by far?) the weakest number. And while the other songs (beside That was your mother) have their roots somehow in Africa, this one is a typical american song with more spanish influence.

Hey Bodo, I did not know you was not in Amsterdam Ziggo Dome concert. I saw a guy who looked like you, I thought, at the front row... So I asked him 'are you Bodo Malo' but he wasn't... must have looked as a strange question for this stranger.... Anyhow, I hope to meet the Bodo PS Info group at some other future PS event...

When I saw Paul last year in Paris, I didn't expect to see him again so soon. No concert in Paris this summer, so I went to Brussels. And what a night it was... What a fantastic concert ! It was a very special night : my first Paul Simon concert was a Graceland concert (in 1989). To see Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Hugh Masekela or Ray Phiri again was very moving – but I miss Miriam Makeba...
Paul was in great shape. He was energetic, smiling, happy to be there, happy to be with his friends. The concert lasted about 2 hours and 45 minutes (!) and it was a treat from beginning to end.
Still crazy after all these years ? Still amazing after all these years !

Just got back from the concert in Oslo. Same set-list as the others, so far I`ve seen. At least same as Sweden and Hyde Park (exept the guest-artists). Wow - What can I say? This is easily the best concert I`ve ever attended, and I didn`t even had the best seat. My place was on the floor, row 23. The attendance was very enthusiastic from the first songs and it was great to hear that the opening tunes of Dazzling Blue was so well received. Something happended when Hugh Masekela arrived the stage and commanded "Everybody Up" (in Spectrum there is only seats) before "Bring Back Mandela". That was the turning point from a very good concert to a great great one. I managed to make my way nearer the stage and ended up standing at the left front side, quit near Tony Cedras. In Spectrum there are no space between the front seats and the stage, so it was impossible to get a better place. Paul was in very good mood as the joked with the audience and he seemed pleased and satisfied. Maybe he was some out of touch during SOS, as he between verse one and two kept playing guitar much longer than he normally does (maybe he buyed some time to remember the lyrics) and he came in for the second verse some late. Finally some words about the band; If there is a musician who has a better backing-band than Paul Simon, please tell me who. It`s just amazing how brilliant musicians each one of them are. I went with 3 friends who are not as dedicated fans as me, but all of them also praised the show and the band(s) afterwards. Thank you, Paul!
