Luke Kelly, one of the Dubliners, died 20 years ago this month. In an article in the Irish Times on Sat it states :- that Luke introduced Paul Simon to an English audience in London´s Troubadour club for the first time, and Art Garfunkel navigated his way out to the Embankment (a barn of a pub in a god forsaken part of the Dublin foothills) to meet Luke after a show, only to be turned away because the place was locked up!!

“For a gathering as filled with exceptional programs as the 117th AES Art of Audio Convention, the term ‘special event’ is almost an oxymoron,” says convention chair John Strawn, “Committee co-chairs Valerie Tyler and Van Webster have coordinated an epic series of symposiums, parties, panels, roundtables, ‘soundtables’, recitals and forums designed to appeal to even the most jaded attendee.”

AES is scheduled to run from October 28-31 in the Moscone Center, and this year’s executive director Roger Furness reports that, “Over 400 exhibitors have signed on, and 18,000 attendees are anticipated.”

PLATINUM PRODUCERS: A&M Records President (and AES Keynote speaker) Ron Fair will moderate a panel of producers including Howard Benson (Hoobastank, My Chemical Romance, Papa Roach, POD), Grammy®-winner Jack Joseph Puig (John Mayer, Green Day, No Doubt), multi-Platinum Grammy®-winner Phil Ramone (Elton John, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Ray Charles Duets), and Chink Santana (Fat Joe f/Ashanti, Luv, Ja Rule), will address the continually evolving technical and creative issues facing today’s hit producers. New book about Simon & Garfunkel

As first tipped here last month, Warner Bros. will on Nov. 30 release the Simon and Garfunkel concert document ´Old Friends: Live on Stage.´ Chronicling the pair´s triumphant 2003 reunion tour, the project will be available as a stand-alone DVD, a double-CD set and a deluxe edition with both the DVD and CDs.

It is unknown if the 26-track ´Old Friends´ was recorded at one show or throughout the trek, which grossed approximately $75 million, according to Billboard Boxscore. The track list includes such classics as ´Scarborough Fair,´ ´The Sound of Silence´ and ´Bridge Over Troubled Water,´ plus the pre S&G single ´Hey Schoolgirl´ (as Tom And Jerry) and the pair´s 1975 reunion single ´My Little Town.´

Also reproduced are the Everly Brothers´ mid-set performances of ´Wake Up Little Susie,´ ´All I Have To Do Is Dream´ and ´Bye Bye Love´ with Simon and Garfunkel.

The DVD includes a pair of tantalizing extras, including a new Simon and Garfunkel audio track ´Citizen of the Planet,´ originally written for Simon´s 1983 solo album, ´Hearts and Bones.´ Also featured is previously unreleased footage believed to originate from the 1969 TV special ´Songs of America,´ hosted by actor Charles Grodin.

The Old Friends tour wrapped in Rome on July 31. Simon is at work on his next solo album with producer Brian Eno.
