Ray Phiri

Ray Chikapa Phiri is an African jazz, fusion and mbaqanga musician born in Mpumalanga. Ray founded Stimela, with whom he conceived gold and platinum-winning albums like Fire, Passion and Ecstacy (1991), Look, Listen and Decide (1992) as well as the controversial People Don’t Talk So Let’s Talk.

For the Graceland project Paul Simon asked Ray and his band Stimela along to join his Graceland project, and from that time on he became his main guitar player for the next few years.

On stage Ray is famous for his strange movie dances while playing guitar. You see him live on the African concert DVD and the Concert at the park video.

At the time Ray is playing in South Africa, collecting money for AIDS campaigns.
