| I've remastered some of the show's with the Goldwave soundfile editor. This program is available on www.goldwave.com, it's an unlimited shareware version. The editor has a lot of very cool effects like Noise Reduction, Pop/Click or Low/High-Pass and can handle files of every size. I worked with a 1.5 GB wave file! | On the picture above you can see the parameters I used to convert the "Back to College" and "Merriwether" show. I first used noise reduction, and when there's still too much rushing, I use a Low Pass Filter at about 8500 Hz. Important here is, that the yellow line doesn't cross the green or red lines until about 3000 - 4000 Hz, (the picture is not a good example ;) ) then at about 6000 Hz you should go deep into the red area. Here is the most rushing sound. But it always depends on the loudness of the song - On very quiet songs you should be carefully reducing the noise, don't go over -90 % on the x-axis, and between 2000 and 4500 Hz the yellow line should be near -100% on the x-axis! I've used only 5 edges on my yellow line, cause if you use more edges, the calculation will rapidly need more time. Don't use bass boost or treble boost if it's not really necessary, cause these filters are changing the voice !!! On my Pentium II 400 this procedure needs about 5 - 8 minutes per song, but it'sreally worth every second you spend ;) Note: If you record the files from your CD, do not compress them to MP3's !! It works on studio albums, but on MP3 files you allways have a gap at about 1/12 - 1/5 sek. at the start of every song. So you'll hear a 'click' between the tracks, if you copy it back to an Audio CD. |
